Default Rear Speaker Replacement Mounting Question

I replaced my speakers by gutting the original mounts and bolting the new speakers to them, but this adds about an 1/2" of clearance that the rear speaker covers just don't have. I had to dremel off the inner support bracket form the covers, but they just rattle off due to still being pressed right up against the speaker. What are you guys doing to mount speakers back there?

for my sub, i used a flexible polyester A/C filter for a house to pad out the space where the box sits. it helped some, but i'm still getting a lot of rattle. i haven't figured that one out yet.

I don't think that's what he's talking about. I think it's the rear "door speaker" that he's talking about.

Where do you have your box sitting lldsandsll? Mine isn't rattling at all and it's in the trunk right under the cargo cover bar.

The rear side panel speakers, 6.5 inch, are a shallow mount type, because there is body structure cross brace right behind the magnet. You cannot fit a large/deep magnet type speaker in there. And if you think you would use spacer rings to get the magnet room, you would be too far outward into the grille cover.

The only solution is for some shallow depth type replacements, and or create your own new grille cover.
If you use spacers, they would need be about 1inch thick, and then it prottrudes into the back of the grille

What kind of speakers are you trying to use? I used Polk audio components and they fit fine and don't hit the grilles

I'm using some Phoenix Gold Ti65cs's

I determined yesterday the problem is in fact the magnet hitting the back wall. Anyone got any hits on making speaker covers? The speakers don't protrude past the opening, so a flat cover would work. The problem is the convex nature of the OEM ones.

Otherwise I could replace them altogether I guess, but then I'd have mismatched speakers in the front and back. Anyone know what the max depth I can use is?

The rattle is probably the floor. I used really thin Velcro around the edges and that fixed it for me. You could also just glue some felt underneath it.
