I bought from NewEgg / LuxuryBlack (they are supposed to be an official reseller). And managed to pay $250 right before they dropped it to $219 for the GPS-enabled version.

DR380G-HD Night Run - YouTube

Probably will look very different in the city. This was a deep suburbia night run without any street lights. (I'm talking with my buddy in Russian, so it's not the microphone, it's us )

One more night time recording - looks pretty decent in the city with some light around:

has anyone tried to used a itouch (like and old 4g) as one? im thinking of making a landscape mount for the car or a rearview mount.

I'm not sure an itouch would do the job all that well. It doesn't have a wide angle lens so you would have to place it further back to get the whole windshield in view. Also, the camera's sensor is weak in low light, so night-time recording is limited.

I'd stick with a dedicated dashcam or at least something with a wider field of view.

That being said, I just preordered a Gopro Hero3 Black Edition, and am hopeful that the lowlight performance will be improved enough to where it can be functional as a dashcam in most lighting conditions.

So Blackvue released a DR500 camera recently and it has a wifi feature that lets you connect any smartphone to it and either watch realtime (not sure why?) or view recorded files. That's the only feature I was missing since they used to only have Android apps and I didn't want to give up my iPhone.

Anyway, just ordered it today, will see how it works out. Going to sell my trusty DR380 if anyone wants it. Great for Android owners with microSD card slots or support for OTG USB.
