Looks like I'm going with an I-Phone. And I hate upgrading the stupid bleepity-bleep phone. I'd be much happier if the one I had simply worked. |

Most support lines wouldn't even know a Pre if they saw one. I know that mine paired up, took calls, and even imported the phone book. That goes for all 3 generations of my Palm Pre models.
I do believe you though and there is room for disclaimers. Perhaps EX and Navi had something to do with it. Perhaps you meant to use it as a music player and not a phone. No biggie. I did not use my Pre for music on a regular basis. I always kept an iPod Nano hooked to the USB for music and podcasts. I did experiment and use the Pre for music using the earphone jack, but those are wired solutions. I was very happy with the Nano interface with the Navi unit. I've seen better, but I was happy. Perhaps your Pre had cracks, Oreo effect, reboots, and battery drains, not to mention crappy support and lack of apps? Anyway, there is a new iPhone that will probably be released at the end of summer if you can hold out. It is supposed to be a complete redesign, as opposed to the 4s that is more of a spec bump. Even with my iPhone, I'm only paired for phone use. I still use my Nano wired on my CR-Z and stowed in that little compartment under the radio. Good Luck! |

Or, you could downgrade to an old CDMA phone (Samsung R330, that costs nothing, can be dropped kicked and stepped on, and works great with the car interface) like I have. But I'm one of the three people on the planet who just uses their phone to, um, "make phone calls"!!!
'Dumb phones rule'- and if you worked for me, that's probably what you'd be issued as a company device. With SMS / MMS service blocked. That's just the way it is, but my employees soon get used to it. I'm not really advocating this - just sayin'.

I am uniquely saddled with the need to pick up/send email from an Earthlink account (which I had no idea could be so limiting) and to sync with the CR-Z.
Jayemtee, I am the first to admit tecno-moron status, but when I tried to get the hands-free phone (only!) to work with the CRZ when I test drove it, it wouldn't work, and when I got on to the help line (through the actual PalmPre phone), they said it would not work for the CRZ hands-free device. They even had me hold to check with someone else, but said it was a 'no go.' I suppose they could be wrong and I could try again ... But I am ditching the phone for the on-going Earthlink issue. Sorry, did not mean to cause a smartphone war! ![]() CR-Z Canadian, I was just thinking Friday (while on the phone with Verizon attempting to sort out all of this mess) that I was really horrified by the amount of time I was spending on setting all of this up, as I used to be a very simple call/receive calls sort of girl. |

He he he. Patti87, my boss has a Merc S550, and he, I, and the local Benz dealerhsip have probably 20+ hours into making ANY of his phones work right with that interface. I think a Blackberry or iPhone will work, but so far, nothing by Samsung, or Motorolla has been perfectly satisfying. He has specific needs that keep me from setting him up on BB or Apple (yet). Keep in mind, that's a 100K car! But a car conceived by engineers to be driven by engineers and doctors. I think the keyless start on that vehicle shouldn't work unless you can prove you have at least one PhD to you name!!!

I hope I don't come off as harsh, but I'm only trying to help. The Honda bluetooth, even with the nav, is not the most user friendly set up. I worry that if you can't set up the Pre, you will run into the same wall with another phone...because the process is the same.
I remember that when I got my iPhone a month ago, it took a few tries to set it up. And that's with the 3 Palm Pre varieties successfully set up. I find that voice menu difficult on my patience. I remember I had two issues. First was turning bluetooth ON on the phone. duh. The second was that I was in the wrong menu. Once you start in the wrong branch of the menu tree, you'll never get it until you back all the way out. Maybe I was in "set up", and I should have been in "pair" or "configure" or something like that. I'm sure it's all nice and simple if you look at the full print out of the tree, but I'm much too vain to look that up. I recall being on the wrong branch of the menu tree with one of the Palms also, and it was a PITA. |

I will definitely give it another whirl then, and see if I can find the set up tree, until such time as the I-Phone arrives and then I'll get to do it all over again.
Trust me, you are not the first person who has pointed out that any one of my numerous techno-issues may be operator-induced!
