That sounds REALLY high, but when we lived in the UK, finding a fairly priced mechanic was almost impossible. We either used the high priced dealer or combined car services with visiting relatives 3 hours away as they had a local independant shop that was good. Ask around and maybe a friend or relative will have a good recommendation.

Under $50 bucks is pretty reasonable for your A1 service.

Honda Filter and Washer are about 6 bucks apiece if you order in a 6 pack. The oil is damn expensive at more than 8 bucks a quart for Mobil 1 0W20 Synthetic (the green cap).

Roughly $40 (if you factor in shipping/tax) for an oil change if you do it yourself.

$48 is good enough to let the dealer do it. But on the price of oil, i have seen Mobil 1 0W20 Synthetic for ~$5 a quart at walmart.

$17.50 ?

No oil filter needed; buy some 0W-20 oil; go to a tire shop (they do free rotations); have them replace the oil while it is on the lift. A car, especially a Honda, with under 10,000 mile is not going to have any wear (unless you are racing it?). Check the fluids yourself (see the manual). Done.

In the U.K. you have to spend Pounds the way North America spends Dollars.

Their gas (petrol) is about 1.25 Pounds per litre. Ours in Canada is $1.25

I hate going to stealerships for any reason. I believe that when I have taken my other hondas in they hear ca-ching. Dealers charge outragous prices for car check ups.

I paid £180 at the local dealership and they changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, wiper blades and they checked the brakes, lights and levels. They used the 2nd best option for the oil (5W-30), as recommended by the manual.

Service update cost - and a big moan....

Car went in for 1st (annual) service last October, expecting to pay £99 as quoted, inc oil change.
Garage deliver car back to my workplace & happily told me they 'only charged' £55 as the oil service didnt need to be done (according to data).
I was pretty pished off as had specifically asked for oil service.

Rock on to 3 weeks ago & blow me down the service light comes on again - go into garage & they say 'oh, it needs an oil service' - that costs £108......... JUST to change oil & filter!!

Am pretty angry that I have now got to pay MORE than was quoted last year - the car was new OTR in Oct 2010 & has even now only done just under 8000 miles (I have 2nd car & also my roadbikes (Ducati) were in use a lot last summer.

What would you do?
Complain to Honda about the 'cheap' servicing
Do it myself? (no prob as OH is a tech)
Or swallow it & get it done anyway....

Thoughts?
