Folks, check your rear liscence plate. It should be on with the top two screws and the bottom of the plate is rattling against the chassis. There should be a foam piece in place to stop the rattling but it isn't sufficient. Your dealership should have additional foam pieces that can be set behind the plate to eliminate the rattling.

I checked the piece of plastic in the boot, still making the sound. I have also checked my number plate, this is secure but I tried with some padding behind it and it still makes some noise.

I notice the sound constantly, especially on rough road surfaces, around mine they have not repaired the roads since last winter and I have noticed that when I go over a particularly rough bit of road or turn sharply I get a clonking sound from the rear too.

I was thinking maybe the boot/trunk was a tiny bit loose. I shall get someone to hold this from the inside tomorrow to see if it helps..

Mine rattles unless I have it pulled out to cover the back.

Ok, I did some extensive testing tonight. I don't think it's any of the plastic pieces. I took both the left and right removable panels completely off. They just cover the area where the shocks attach to the frame. I crammed little pieces of foam everywhere I could find that could possibly be a rattle, noise still was there 100%. Cargo cover was out of the car the entire time. It's not the license plate either. Took out the spare tire and jack and felt around and found nothing.

Mine has the distinct sound of a metal on metal rattle...think two pieces of sheet metal rattling type sound. The plasticy rattles have a deeper sound than what I'm hearing. Does this seem to describe what you guys are hearing?

Yes, that seems like what I'm hearing.
Thanks, so I don't have to bother with those panels. Now, I'm thinking if the sound is from somewhere inside the rear bumper.

Ok, I think I've gotten somewhere with this. Tried the back bumper found a loose wire that might be a problem although I doubted it...taped it down, it wasn't.

However, I was just looking around under the car and I found something with a very similar sound. If you look under the car right behind the passenger's door you will see the orange IMA cable up in there. When I just barely jiggle this I hear the exact same type of noise I'm hearing inside the car. It's not loose by any means. If you look under the spare tire the battery is there, and that whole area isn't really "insulated" much from the inside of the car so I wouldn't be slightly surprised if this noise was hearable inside. Also, I'm sure normal driving would cause this to vibrate a bit.

Maybe someone with two people available can test this out for me. Sit in the car with all of the doors shut and have someone jiggle that big cable and see if you can hear it and think it's the noise we are all complaining about.

If it is, I'm just going to tell the dealer to fix it...

EDIT: I threw my cell phone in there on video record and jiggled the cable around...you can definitely hear it inside the car. I can't say for sure if it's the same noise or not, sounds like it might be but hard to tell through a cell phone microphone

Just layed on ground and looked under car.... Man you might be right about IMA cable. We heard a noise right behind passenger seat going out for yogurt last night. Mine was more of something like a thump kinda but nothing in cargo area. Your like me you cant stand thumps, plastic rattles of any kind. Good work.

I also had a bit of investigation with the help of a family member. The small tingle type sound is coming from the boot, my sister put her hand on it from the passenger rear seat and the sound stopped.

The clonking sound appears worse when on rough roads and it doesn't appear to be coming from the plastic parts as we removed these and tried a bit of padding like on a previous post. We were thinking that it could be a number of things from the suspension to loose battery support..

Saturday I am going back to the dealer to let them listen and sort it, we shall see what happens!

Please keep us posted. My rattle is getting progressively worse so i'm definitely interested to know what your dealer finds out.
