Thanks for all the responses. I just searched the 2011 Owners manual yet again and found buried on page 243 a note that says "change the engine oil according to the maintenance minder messages, or annually, whichever comes first." This is more or less consistent with the practice mentioned by those responders above: wait for the message minder message, but go ahead and do it if the time gets long, such as a year.

I change my oil and filter every 3700km.

But my driving style might be a bit more excessive than yours.

Check your oil every couple of days.

I would bet money that the oil on your Dipstick is dirty and not on the full mark.

All Honda Vtec motors use oil. (that is why they last so long)

uh??

Use the maintenance minder.. You'll save a little money from unneeded oil changes... and last time I changed oil after around 7500 miles (12000km), oil was clean and full..

Qualify that statement with a little OQE (Objective Qualifying Evidence)??

Not taking into account current tech in engines and oil tech?? As stated, 7500 miles with no loss of oil and still tested pretty clean.. Other long term CR-Z owners and members here can also chime in..

Unless just troll'n of course.. Teasing.. Maybe..

polarisoctane: 3700km equates to ~2300 miles on this side of the pond. I have to question why you have to change the oil so prematurely. Newer vehicles does not require such extreme early oil changes unless you want to keep those oil lube employees stay employed resulting profit for the owners.

I did changed my initial oil changed early when I was breaking in my engine (breaking in the engine was discussed extensively on another thread). After that, it has been like clock works ~10,000 plus miles when OBC tells me to do service. I changed my own oil; have not noticed extreme oil burn you suggest. If any burning did occurs, I would say only about 1/4 quarts is affected (estimate by placing used oil back into empty oil container). My dipstick never shows needing to add more oil even when I went as far as 0% life of oil on OBC.

To OP, there are 2 classes of thought of initial oil changes. Do a search for engine break in and you will find some ideas. But since you are at ~8,000 miles, I say wait until your service light lights up.
