Angry CR-Z Mugen Kit - Help getting it registered

Do you mind sharing any contact numbers/e-mails etc. you used to be able to get the MUGEN plaque number from HONDA. I bought mine brand new a month ago from a dealership in Oregon. The MUGEN kit was already installed and advertised by the sales manager as one of the limited 300 kits available but nobody seems to know how to request this certificate and plaque number from Honda. Called Honda customer service and was told that only the cars that come with the Mugen kit "factory installed" qualify for this plaque. Also Honda should note in their system the trim as MUG (Mugen). Mine shows-up only as EX (NAVI). It is my understanding that the dealership should register the Mugen Kit with American Honda Corp. before they will issue the certificate and the plaque/badge with the kit number. As far as I can tell nobody seems to know the "ropes" on how to do that. Really frustrating. I can really use your help. Thanks.

"Mugen" is not considered Mugen for the dealer installed. Unless you think you have a real Mugen CR-Z, but then you would have the plaque and the title etc would say that.
Yes you have a "Mugen Kit" but the whole car is not Mugen. there were other things, like ECU, floormats, intake, special seats, specail wheels, etc that would be noted if yours was a real mugen, which it is not.

sorry to bust your bubble.

You have a Mugen Kit, but not a Mugen CR-Z, therefore no badge plate, and no nothing. You simply have a EX with nav....just as been told to you. Want a Mugen, then get the real car, and have the plaque.

if i happen to be wrong, someone chime in .

Default Please help me understand....

Here's part of the announcement made by Honda back in 2010.

"11/02/2010 – LAS VEGAS
A 2011 CR-Z equipped with MUGEN accessories is also being revealed, and Honda announced that in the spring of 2011, it will begin sales of a limited-edition MUGEN accessory kit for the vehicle. Limited to only 300 complete kits, the package includes: a full MUGEN body kit; a front grille; a rear wing spoiler; 17-inch “XJ” aluminum wheels; sport mats; a unique black aluminum shift knob and a billet aluminum oil-filler cap. Further, after purchase, each owner will receive a unique serial-number plaque designating each kit as one of 300 available. All of the painted parts will come color-matched to each of the five available CR-Z colors. Pricing details will be made available closer to the on-sale date."

The vehicle has the Mugen Body-kit, Wheels, Floor Mats, Shift knob and Oil Filler Cap.
Am I missing anything here?.

It doesn't sound like you're missing anything. You're not really supposed to be able to get the Mugen kit from anywhere besides the dealership. Check out Romiata's build thread. I think he bought the base model CR-Z and went and bought the Mugen package for it that was installed by the dealer after he had the car for a little while. I'm pretty sure he started modding his car before he got his Mugen kit on there. After he got all of that, he got the plaque.

Romi has the best documented Mugenifcation. Hopefully he chimes in and gives us some insight.

The mugen kit is supposed to come with a plaque if purchased through the dealer.

Well, I see one of the members got the Certificate and Plaque all personalized with their name and VIN number. The dealership had this in their showroom therefore I don't believe Honda issued the Certificate in the dealership name. I believe the dealership has to register the kit with Honda after the sale before I will receive the Certificate but I'm not sure. Nobody seems to know it either. If anybody knows how this should be done please don't hesitate to post.

You probably paid top dollar for the Kit - I would be all over the dealer (management) to figure it out and get your certificate and plaque etc. I.e, yes I believe the dealership should be taking care of this. If not getting any satisfaction, go to corporate.

Congrats on your Mugen CR-Z!
Yes, you did buy a "real" one, regardless of what other forum members *cough-bheihen74-cough* might believe. As Art stated, I bought a Base model, had the dealership add it on AND received the plaque, cert and other goodies from American Honda...
It took a few months for me to recieve the items though. Here are what your cert and badge will look will look like:

I was even able to contact a rep at AH AFTER I had received the items. She was kind enough to send me a few more goodies:

Talk to your dealership first. They'll use your VIN to register it with American Honda. Your insurance WILL cover the Mugen kit, as a factory installed accesory. It may take awhile, but it will happen.. As you can see on my certificate, the date of issue was Oct 4, 2011. I actually bought mine on July 3, 2011. The kit was installed 2 weeks after I had bought it. So you figure it was about 4 months for everything to be completed... I don't know if that is the normal amount of time it takes, but thats my experience. Also, I personally knew the sales mgr, and it still took a bit.
If your still having issues, please pm me and I'll see if I can get in touch with the rep (she's pretty high up there, if I remember correctly) Maybe then we can motivate the right people to be sure yours is numbered/registered... Congrats again! Good luck and please keep us udated.
Btw, I'm #60/300
