Default Another one bites the dust...

Well, it happened. Not even two weeks after taking it home, fate decided it didn't like my CR-Z.

I was sat at an intersection and a (according to the police) likely drunk twat slams right into me, driving his company's car no less (air con repair company van). If I can take any form of consolation, at least it was beyond a doubt his fault alone, and I have an intersection full of witnesses to prove it. And of course, the fact that I wasn't seriously injured.

Pictures speak for themselves, but as you can see the rear axle is bent pretty bad. I'm really wondering if it's fixable at all. This was my very first accident, and it had to be in this car...

Still, I'm sure it's no surprise to say that seeing the brand-new dream car I worked so hard to get in this state is a bit disheartening...

Sorry to see that. Hopefully you'll be able to get it fixed or a new one soon.

Looks totally fixable. New rear bumper and diffuser (Maybe mugen or aftermarket?!) Of course the metal bumper beam underneath the bumper cover will need to be replaced. Also new rear axle.

What I'm wondering is, is it worth it to fix it? That is, is there a chance the car will be less trustworthy after this, even after replacing the parts? Then there's the issue of it having an accident and crash damage on its record, which will only worsen the Z's already pitiful resale value.

Truth told, I don't really want to replace it, mostly for sentimental reasons, honestly. But I don't know if fixing it could maybe open up a new can of worms...

It's a pity the moron decided to swerve at the very last minute, otherwise he'd have hit the bumper dead centre and perhaps spared the axle and lessened the damage.

Man, that sucks! Sorry to see this - after all your considering this car, and looking forward to it. But if it goes to a shop that knows what they are doing, you shouldn't have to worry. Look at Scotty - he hit a house, and the car survives!
Just don't accept anything less than a perfect fix, and tell your insurance adjuster that right off the bat.

Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Cheers for the condolences, mates. Indeed, what hurts the most is the feeling of knowing how hard it was to get this car, and how many sacrifices I had to make for it, only for it to end up like this, because of something that wasn't even my fault.

I think I'm leaning more towards fixing it than replacing it (depending on what the repairman says). I'll likely be taking it right back to the dealer's shop once insurance clears, and since I am absolutely not at fault I will not accept ANYTHING less than it being exactly as it was when it left Suzuka, with 100% OEM parts, down to the last bolt.
