Firmware updates are no big deal. I had a couple of them done to my 98 Boxster.

I figure there's less of a chance of them screwing up a firmware update than a physical repair!

At the time, the consensus on this forum was that the car simply rolling down hill from gravity might have felt like it was accelerating in reverse, but the strange description of this malfunction suggests that just such a thing could have been initiated by the car.

I found the thread:
Strange CR-Z Experience on way home from Dealer

Looks like the user only ever posted this, though, so he's probably not around to see the resolution. I think you are right about the symptom. Obvioulsy not an isolated incident, though, or it would never have made a recall.
I do remember that poster too! I thought of them the moment I read the first post. Good job on finding the original thread!

That blows. The last time I was at the dealership they had mentioned something about having me come in for something to do with the A/C that Honda had issued to CRZ owners. That was months ago, haven't heard anything since.

I went to OWNERlink and entered my VIN - the response was that there is no recall for my vehicle. I have a manual trans - I wonder if it's just for some or all manuals???
