Honda CR-Z Hybrid Orders At 10 Times Monthly Target

Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it has received more than 10,000 orders for the CR-Z sporty hybrid car after a month on the Japanese market, or 10 times the pace of its monthly sales target.

Of the total, half of the buyers were new to the Honda brand, Japan's No.2 carmaker said in a statement.

Honda has said it expects to sell 40,000-50,000 of the CR-Z a year worldwide, with sales scheduled to start in North America and Europe this summer.

Default This Could Delay U.S. Release

Unless the CR-Z bombs in Europe (very doubful), this early sales success might result in a later U.S. release. American Honda has been waiting to see early sales in other markets before giving a specific date for the U.S. And like the early S2000, production in Japan cannot be ramped up to meet sales goals that greatly exceed initial forecasts.

I'll see what my spies can find out from American Honda and let you know.

why will that delay US's release ?

also the sales target, is that the same as the max production ? because if the sales target is less than max production, then with this many orders, they can ramp up production right ?

sry im new to this stuff

Default Maxed Out Production?

Here's the reason that American Honda might have to push back the release or face dealer shortages: The Japanese factory producing the CR-Z is limited to a certain number of cars. For example only, let's say 40,000 w/o overtime and 50,000 with o/t. With sales in Japan running 10 times forecast and European sales ahead of ours, it comes down to a simple supply and demand situation.

Unfortunately, the U.S. is the last dog to the plate, and most of the food may be gone when it's our turn. So we either have to wait until there's more food available or try to live on whatever scraps are thrown our way.

Neither of these options are good, but the second option of short supply will assure higher dealer prices, just as with the S2000 when it arrived in the U.S. Just another reason to write your own dealer contract NOW for the 1st or 2nd dealer car at MSRP.
