Honda Sells One Million Hybrids Worldwide

After 12 years and 11 months since the first Honda Insight went on sale Japan, Honda has reached the global-sales milestone of 1 million hybrid vehicles sold. In 2000 the Insight came to the US marking the first hybrid on the US market and since then, Honda has sold 318,000 hybrids over here.

Sales of Honda hybrids have generally been slower than that of Toyota but this makes sense as Toyota is the larger company on a global scale. As of August 2009 Honda had sold 400,000 hybrid cars worldwide. The 2010 debut of the CR-Z really boosted Honda's sales so that by December of that year the Japanese automaker had sold 600,000 hybrid cars. With the ever expanding Honda and Acura hybrid lineup we expect to see the continued exponential growth of hybrid sales.
