Any ideas why my MPG is so low? - Honda CRZ Forum: Honda CR-Z Hybrid Car Forums

I have put about 1000 miles on my car and I absolutely love it, but one thing about is really nagging me and that's the much lower than expected mpg. I appear to be averaging about 31 mpg since I got it. I don't drive it any harder than my old mini cooper which bested it by an average 3 or 4 mpg... is it a setting on the computer or I am missing something...or is this just what I can expect?

Can you describe in more detail the typical drives you take and your driving style? 31 could be normal, depends on how and where you are driving it.

What mode are you driving it in? What's your tire pressure? Where do you live and what are the conditions?

That is weird. Check your tire pressure. Even driving hard, I can't drop below 32.

how long is your average trip, and what's your average speed, per the cars computer?

I average between 34 and 35mpg, which is lower than most.. but my average trip is about 10 minutes, 6 or 10 miles. average speed is 24mph.
I'm trying to figure out why my mpg is so low, too.

Mostly very short trips so far with an even mix of all three modes. Usually normal
and Sport when I am bored or Econ when on a longish trip down the 405. I am a little throttle punchy but not overly so and the important thing is that my driving has been the same for years and the only real change is the vehicle and I bested the cr-z in a mini most of the time by 3 or 4 mpg. I think I was a little more throttle happy then because I was driving more. Hmmmmm. Not too dissappointed but not too impressed either. I guess that's the sweet spot Honda was looking for?

Tire pressure is normal to above average...38 in the front 36 in the rear cold

Let the motor break in some. My first few thousand miles I averaged around 35 to 36 MPG. Now I'm between 43 to 45MPG. I'm at around 11000 miles

I was lucky to get 35 city, 39 highway in the first 10k. Now I'm at about 22k, and I get 42 highway driving slightly faster than everyone else, gliding through traffic and not taking it easy.
