Just for the hell of it today I checked my trip B that I reset at the beginning of Decemeber and its showing my average mpg's at 40.3 but then again that's the computer figuring it out, we know the "old school" method is much more accurate but I'm pretty happy with seeing that for sure. Its been an up and down winter for sure, above normal temps, then VERY cold, no snow and then 2 storms in 2 weeks time and then it melts away, so the average does balance out I guess. Can't wait to reset it in the spring and see how that goes, I'm expecting BIG things

Well that snow storm and all its spinning and idling caught up with my car and I netted 37.6 mpg but I'm still happy with the mileage, above what its rated at for sure (not sure how they came up with 31/37 mpg) so I can't complain. Before you know it, the temps will go up and we'll be back on summer grade and I expect mid 40's for sure, using SPORT mode.

Has anyone else given SPORT mode some use to see how it goes with the mpg's? Also, mixed in premium for a couple tanks too to see how that works out for you? Gas has come down here but my BP station hasn't quite caught up yet but then again its not too far off of the freeway, I paid $3.89 for Ultimate.

Thumbs up

Back up over 40 mpg's, (40.2) so I gained 2.6 mpg since last week and for this tank I added a bottle of Chevron fuel injector cleaner too, since it was on sale at Autozone and I was there getting some other things for the car as well. I'm not sure I really needed the fuel injection cleaner but hey, it doesn't hurt to run some in the car every so often, even when running premium all the time, its had premium in it since my first tank of gas

SPORT mode during the winter, even with winter fuel and colder temps and the car is still averaging over 40 mpg, using the OBC anyways....CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING, NOW MORE THAN EVER

Seems reasonable for driving in econ mode all the time. I've been pumping 87 from the beginning. Should I change to 93?will that be better for the car and its fuel consumption?
What's your thought?

I've been driving in SPORT mode, not ECON, just wanted to be clear on this I used ECON for one whole tank way back in the beginning of this thread and posted my numbers, it was warmer then and we weren't on winter grade fuel either but from my first tank, I've been on 93. IMO and this is just MY OPINION that the premium helps with timing which gives the engine a "bit" more power, thus it doesn't need to work quite as hard. My mileage numbers show that even with cold weather and winter grade fuels, that using 93 keeps the MPG's up and on a side not, keeps the engine cleaner too. I switched over to 93 all the time when I had my Fit and my averages used to be 22-23 mpg in the winter and I then switched to Shell, at the time and it went up to 28-29 mpg's, so I was hooked from that point on. The debates will go on forever about not needing 93 in a car that's tuned for 87, but IMO it stated "minimum" octane rating, the ECU seems to adjust for the added octane, the 'butt dyno" in the Fit showed a gain for sure as well.

Silver Bullet has ALL the facts and figures to back this up, he sold me on this and I always thank him

BTW, my OBC is showing 42.9 mpg's right now but it usually goes down after a while but its waaaaay up from 2 tanks ago, thank you Mother Nature, now we just need spring here and summer fuel and mid 40's plus should be a breeze

KA, You know I have a Civic and debating on a CRZ. My last tank gave me 40 plus and the tank before was 33. Cant complain about the weather either.

I have a 2 year average of 37mpg and raising and I dont drive slow. I do mild hyper-miling techniques but drive 70 plus on the interstate not to get run over.

If your getting better than the manufacture mpg on regular, premium might not get better mpg and I see a 10 percent or more increase using premium over regular so the cost is cheaper in the long run.

Honda would have won the law suit if they said to use higher octane gas because that is what they use in Japan. That law suit got me upset because its the epa that set the standard of regular when they knew higher octane is what they used. That is why they want to raise the ethanol content to raise the octane using cheaper gas to get better mpg due to a more efficient engine using higher octane gas.

I've found that the econ mode uses the battery boost more aggressively than the sport mode. I can hardly ever get a full boost off of the sport mode, whereas the econ mode I always get a full boost on acceleration. I can get 50 mpg in econ mode when I stay around 50 mph. There is more "play" in econ mode so I've noticed that when I barely press the gas peddle I can coast and get 100 mpg on the instant gauge and have just one bar of charge on the charge meter. It can be done in normal too, but its harder to find the "sweet spot" and find the balance between coasting and barely charging the batteries.

Hey STU, not doubting your finds but when I tried using the ECON mode for one week and then switching to SPORT I got about 3 mpg's better, but that's me, we'll see when I get to drive the car in the summer how it goes as I got the car in mid Sept of last year.

SB, what color CR-Z would you get?

SILVER of course.

Driving style has a lot to do with mpg. If the batteries are fully charged or not. Traffic around here does not allow a decent cruise so there is a lot of mpg fluctuation.

Mileage is steady at 40.3 mpg and the mileage since early December, according to the OBC is showing 40.4 mpg, pretty consistent but I will remind you guys that's the OBC average, not the calculator method but its pretty close though. My OBC showed my average at 41.2 and I got 40.3, so its fairly close and infact its spot on at time or within .1 mpg.

Hey SB, I've got the K&N typhoon coming, don't know when my buddy is going to install it but we'll see how that goes for mileage. IMO its going to improve mileage but we'll see for sure. Look at it like this, increase in torque and the engine doesn't have to work as hard, increease in mileage plus there's my driving style, I pay attention to coasting and don't speed, so I'm probably in the minority there. BTW, good choice on the color I must say.
