PLEASE RECORD YOUR AVERAGE FUEL ECONOMY IN THE ABOVE POLL.
USE THE AVERAGE OF AT LEAST 3 FILL UPS
NOT YOUR BEST EVER, NOT YOUR WORST, BUT YOUR OVERALL AVERAGE
(FOR THOSE WHO VOTED BEFORE, PLEASE NOTE THE POLL HAS BEEEN REVISED AND RESTARTED, SO PLEASE VOTE AGAIN)
Fuel economy is a big part of the CRZs feature set. The US EPA estimates of 31/37 MPG for the 6 speed are a bit disappointing for a hybrid and the fuel economy achieved by media testing so far has been even a bit worse.
But the question yet to be answered is what is the real world fuel economy from actual owners?
Please post your results here. Whether it is MPG or in kilometers per liter or mile per imperial gallon, please post what you find your results are and we will do the conversions so we can compare results from around the world.
Tell us how you drive your CRZ. Do you spend time in city traffic, highway cruising, are you a lead foot or a hypermiler? Tell us if you have a manual or a CVT.
It is clear that the CRZ isn't going to challenge the Prius as a fuel mileage champ, but I really would like to see if anyone can consistently achieve 40 MPG or more and are there others who will struggle to get 30 MPG?
I see that there are already 3 CRZ owners who have posted their actual fuel economy there.
The first has driven 1471 km on 93 liters of fuel. This calculates to 6.32L/100km or 37.2 MPG (US)
The second has driven 3203 km on 203 liters of fuel. This also calculates to 6.32L/100 km or 37.2 MPG (US)
The third has driven 1848 kilometers on 131 liters of fuel. This calculates to 7.09L/100km or 33.2 MPG (US)
In my own CR-Z, all the information is right there.
The average fuel consumption is 16.1 km/l for the 2800 km the car has been driven so far. Each day I am told the average fuel consumption for the previous day when I drove the car. Yesterday, it was 19.8 km/l. I drove from home to the expressway and then a few km on narrow urban roads with relatively few traffic lights. I used Sports Mode because I was in a hurry. I used Econ Mode for the drive home, which followed precisely the same route. So, there was some lead-footing on the way there, but much hyper-miling on the way home, and the 19.8 was not much less than the 20.5 stated in the catalogue for the car.
For conversion of km/l to MPG (US) multiply by 2.35
For conversion of km/l to MPG (UK) multiply by 2.82
For conversion of km/l to l/100 km divide 100 by km/l result
So Hirotaro's overall average is 37.9 MPG (US) or 45.5 MPG (UK) or 6.21 l/100 km
His hyper-miling run delivered 46.5 MPG (US) or 55.9 MPG (UK) or 5.05 l/100km
if you have an account on spritmonitor.de you may view all results in MPG (US or UK) or l/100 km or km/l, no matter what units they have been posted. You may also change the currency. Unit settings can be altered at any time.
First 400 miles = 40 mpg UK, that is mainly city/urban driving. I am not complaining as my Audi TT was lucky to average 18 and my Supra Turbo was, well...... not great.
Im sure half of the reason people are getting crappy gas mileage, or below 40, is that everyone is all excited to be driving this new car and most of them are probably testing it to its full "sporty" potential, while those with numbers around 40+ are probably driving it conservatively
LOL I bet... Still waiting for mine - but I'm currently getting around 31/32 MPG (UK) from my C-Class Merc, and up to 40 if I'm really careful (i.e. not having fun). So even if I have some fun in the CR-Z I'm expecting to get better than this, I can't lose
So far driven 850 miles & returning around 48mpg (UK),
mainly on main roads, country lanes & around town.
Sport mode on 'fast' roads, otherwise 'normal' mode.
I've driven my car 200 Miles so far (alot of city driving, not much highway, and hitting "Sport" conservatively) and I have gotten 32 MPG. I have been trying to get some decent mileage, but I guess I can't be too disappointed, since I am on point with the city MPG estimate.
i agree with JnC... i test drove 2 CR-Z's one CVT and one 6MT and both times i remember sitting in the car for at least 5-10mins with the engine on just sitting there talking... not to mention the first thing the salesman told me after i started the car was "Now, you're gonna wanna press the 'Sport' button..."
I was the originator of this thread and have followed it closely.
Based on what has been posted here and on spritmonitor it seems the real world mileage is 37 to 40 MPG US. Or 44 to 48 MPG UK. 6.5 L/100km
It looks like we may see a few people ending up a bit less and maybe some hypermilers will be able to average up to mid 40s, but I think the expectation of 38 MPG US for most people is probably about right.
38 MPG US looks like the combined average. Most of those posting on spritmonitor have been 6 speeds. But it doesn't seem that there is much difference between the reported real world FE of the CVT vs the manual.
