Default Single tank range reaches 500 miles

For the first time in almost 10,000 miles of driving, I got 500 miles out of one tank of gas (click fuelly badge for info). Miles per gallon will always be more important than range, but I admit that when purchasing the crz back in January, I thought I would filling up every 350 miles or so. I'm actually averaging well over 400. Getting that kind of range without having to haul around 20+ gallons of fuel is great.

Wow. That is friggin awesome! Im still learing how to drive this thing efficiently. Which mode do you generally use? Driving mostly freeway? City? Combined?

At the end of my 2nd tank (2 bars showing) indicating 380 miles @ 40.3 MPG. About 50-50 city highway. Only have 850 miles on the car so when its fully broken in I hope to get milage and range like your getting!

500 miles that's great, did you have any bars left on the fuel gauge? I always worry about letting it go below 3 bars and tuning on the low fuel light on. Not knowing if there is enough fuel to keep the fuel pump cooling and not sucking in air in a corner.
Anyone have a clue as to how much fuel is left in the tank when the gauge shows empty?
I think I put in about 9.47 or 9.27 gal the time when I pulled into the gas station and the low fuel light had just turned on.

I drive for two days with the gas light on and dont fill up until the miles left says less than 10! I usually wind up putting close to 10 gallons in it.

It went to 0 miles, 0 bars at 498.1 miles. Prior to doing so, it hovered at one mile DTE for over four miles of driving. I pulled into the station at exactly 500.0 miles and it took 9.95 gallons. I topped off as much as possible, indicating a little over half a gallon of fuel left. The most I have ever put in the tank is 10.27 gallons.

Well that's good to know, it seems to predict the range accurately, I had 40 miles left when I hit 2 bars.
Still I feel that that pushes the fuel pump to the limits not having enough gas in the tank to cool it. And with the 105 degree temps that we have been having it can make it even worse.

I did it once. Force fed a lot of extra fuel into the tank and filler neck for a long drive. Wanted to see if I could make it from Boise Idaho to Reno Nevada on one tank.
