Default First Tank Mystery

For some reason, my first tank was best at 39MPG.

Since then it's been 32-35.

Honda CRZ 6MT (Honda CR-Z) | Fuelly

I can't figure out what I am doing differently. Could the initial dealer tank have been premium gas?

Anyone else see odd results like this?

I would be real suprised if any dealer went to the extra expense for premium fuel.

Here is a thought, the dealer may have given your car a fill to the brim first fill up. Since then, you may have only been filling up until the pump first cuts off. As others have noted in other threads, it is possible to put more than 11 gallons into the 10.3 gallon tank if you keep pushing the pump until it fills the filler neck and evaporation control canisters.

Also, your first fill up shows, 366 miles, did you reset your odometer when you got the car, or was the the total miles since zero, in which case the car had been driven a few miles before it was filled.

The odo had 8 miles on it at purchase, which I put into fuelly. So that first 366 is accurate.

My first fuel-up was better than the second one too. I was also curious about it like you because i drove it better during the second fuel-up.

For the third fuel-up i switched to a high octane fuel and my l/100Km exceeded even the first one.

So, i think that the type of fuel we feed our CRZ has something to do with it.

Could it be you really babied the car the first tank or so... and now that you are more used to it, you drive it a little more forcefully than you did that first tank?

My MPG is droping slightly but I'm pretty sure it has everything to do with the weight of my foot.

As far as I can tell, I am still babying it - I rarely tach it up past 4k or use Sport Mode, mostly because I find the experience lacking so why kill the MPG?

I have tried many brands of gas but AFAIK they have all been 10% ethanol. If I can find some gas without ethanol maybe that will help.
