I got 427 on the first tank with 41.2 MPG.
I have driven Insights for the last 8 years which have similar systems. So here is how i deal with distance. - Since its nearly a 10 gallon tank, assume you can go 10 times your current milage. In theory, you can go 10.6 times your current gas milage but the math is harder to do. So keep the 0.6 (which at 40 MPG is 24 miles), as a safety margin. - On the Insights, I found that the tank held more than the 10.7 gallons the spec's claimed. If I ran it real close to empty, I could put more than 10.7 gallons in. - So far (one tank) on the CR-Z, I ran it pretty close (in theory 10.4 gallons) but couldn't put 10 gallons in the tank (may have been a calibration issue at the pump). - The miles remaining display seems to be set for the fuel remaining (as determined by the tank float gauge) and the current milage. (On the Insight, it seemed to be different. It would go to 0 and you could still drive 30 miles.) Hence, it seems pretty close. In my first encourter, it was at 3 when I got gas. There is probably still some contingency there but how much remains to be seen. - The Refueling light goes on with 1.8 gallons remaining (according to the manual). At 40 MPG, that is 72 miles! I noticed that there was 40 miles when it went on for me. And less gas means less weight which means better milage (but not much). So run it nearly dry but know where the next gas station is. |
