I feel like we've had this discussion before, but I can't find the thread for it. I'd imagine gains would be minimal. I think someone mentioned something about brake cooling as well.

Probably not going to see much in the way of gains. Belly pans and tight wheel wells don't create a lot of turbulance.

Gains are gains. Small gains add up.

I'm curious, what is the weight of a steel wheel + full moon caps?

I was thinking more the brushed aluminum full moon, double stick tape over the stock alloys. that would be the route to go for weight.

It should net more mpg than some seem to think...and especially on a cross wind drive

I'd be curious to see the results.

Brake heat can be countered with higher temperature fluid (you can't boil Motul RBF600 on the street) and better pads, ducting could be a last resort. And since it's a mod aimed at MPG, there shouldn't be any excessive speed or threshold braking requirements anyway (ie you don't get better MPG at 90mph, so brake heat shouldn't be an issue anyway), and hyper-milers have a general distain for brakes.

There's a reason Honda made rear wheel well covers for the first-generation Insight. It has one of the lowest drag coefficients of any production vehicle.

I'm sure others would be interested in real world results as well.

What is the origin of the drag, that solid covers would remedy?
Flow over the surface of the car, broken over the wheel well?
Or the drag from every spoke in the wheel as it revolves at very high speed?

I always thought it was the latter, but this discussion seems to indicate that these influence the drag created by the whole vehicle as it cuts through the air. That's where wheel well covers would be the superior solution. (yeah, steering is overrated).

Crosswinds are negated too when using wheel discs
