I'm getting decent mileage & don't believe I'm in any danger of blowing a tire and/or risking any kind of safety! I would never go ABOVE 40 psi, but do realize several here on this forum do. Thazzit!
I never said having them at 40 is risking any safety, I said it was uncomfortable. I said going past the max (Not 40) was dangerous. Thazzit

I know that many soloII drivers will smear shoe polish or chalk on the heel of tire. They check it between runs for sidewall roll and adjust pressure accordingly. Typically, the pressure they end up with is higher than the number on the door jamb. How much so depends on the tires, the car, the course, etc.

So, yeah, there is going to be an optimal tire pressure for cornering. But it has little to do with the manufacturer's recommendations.

No worries. It's not like all my posts are peaches and cream. I just gotta stick up for my peeps in Michigan.

GM and Nissan engineers have gone on record saying that comfort is one of the factors they use when determining recommended tire pressure. The recommendation can go up or down depending on their target for ride quality. We have even seen different ratings for the same tire/car combination in different countries. Clearly, there is a gray area. I'm not sure that 52 psi falls within that range, but there is a range.

Well put Varmint. I agree bumping up the tires pressure up to a certain point is okay and safe. Versus....uhm, I need not say more.

My experience with landspeed racing is to increase the tire pressure to reduce sidewall flex as the tire rotates. Reduce the flex, less heat is generated and rolling resistance reduces. I run 35psi for traction on the front and 75 psi on the rear. Honda engineers I have spoken to tell me that tire pressure recommendations are primarily for comfort.

^ yea - Agreed. Certain situations (specialized) require different tire pressures. A daily driver? As previously mentioned, went to 40 a while back and ride was not comfortable and did not really see any increase in MPG from my norm of 36..

Another potential thing to consider is Resident Destructive Frequencies. If the tire is over inflated, every little vibration based on road conditions is going to resonate through the car more than normal. As Genius previously alluded to, he could feel every different surface and made a reference to the dashboard. This may turn you CR-Z into a rattle bucket and although may have MPG bragging rights, longevity of your ride may be at stake.. I'm thinking 34-38 is about right depending on your preferences..

ZOMG!!!111ONEONETWO 75 PSI!!!! THINK OF OF THE CHILDREN!!
In my opinion blah blah blah not safe blabbity blah your tire is going to change shape despite being full of freaking steel wire blah blah blah blah

or so the comments will go......

Hondata man, you're going to confuse the locals with that kind of talk. It's all kinds of reasonable and likely supported by the facts.

Ummm, I'm not into landspeed racing but I'm pretty sure those tires aren't like road tires and need to sustain speeds well over 200, 300, 400 and higher. Those tires are made to go in a straight line and are certainly made of a different construction as well. I'm not saying you don't know this already, but since it hasn't been brought up, well, I thought I would

Hey Varmit, I'm from the metro Detroit area myself, just moved out here to Chicagoland about 2.5 yrs ago but I'm Detroit all the way, born and raised in the city!

Growing up and being from the city your always on guard about being from Detroit, so this is why I'm posting here. My comments have "mostly" been on the helpful and informative side, aside from the liberal dribble that is

FWIW I'm a Michigan and will be in town watching the U of M vs. Bama game next weekend, GO BLUE!
