HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS GETTING ABOVE 50mpg?! I drive a 6 speed EX. I've noticed that the best fuel economy I can get is cruising somewhere between 45-50mph. This will only get me about 50mpg. Any stops/starts will only pull this number down. So unless you guys are rolling down a hill, with extremely high octane fuel, I don't see achieving above 50mpg possible. This highest I've ever gotten was 51.2mpg over a 20 mile trip. The trip was about 50% highway and the rest was riddled with stoplights and stop signs. And the only way I achieved this number was because driving like a grandma: extremely slow acceleration, and very slow deceleration. |

Do you use any hypermiling technics to achieve this. I got 52.5 for 142 miles today and did not do anything in the way outside of normal driving practices. |

That was round trip driving, within the first mile of the fill up I was at my house, and that picture I am at my house, so a drastic 4000 foot elevation change is not responsible. But I do notice differences in one way trips even if the elevation change is over a hundred miles, say Denver to somewhere, or Pittsburg to Baltimore.
A how to-huh? |

Which year vehicle does the OP have?
Like a couple others have said, I have never gotten above 38mpg. And, I used to never ever be the fastest car on the road.. That was just keeping up w/ traffic. Lately I've given up and floor it as much as possible, and still get about 33mpg. But, honestly, putting in all the thought on conservation of momentum and driving slowly, etc, I never got above 38mpg. |
