Default Does adding spacers affect handling ?

Hello forum members,

Im new here and i have a noob question,
Does adding spacers at the rear affect the handling of the car ? because the rear will be wider than the front and our CRZ is a front wheel car.
anyone mind to help ?

Daily driving.. Not really.. should not really feel any difference. Maybe a little better. A bit of understeer. Others may disagree. Tracking it? Maybe not a good choice.

Pushing the rear wheels outward will provide more grip in the rear and tend it cause more understeer. More understeer is generally a benign condition compare to more oversteer where the rear end can lose grip going into a corner.

As stated - daily driving - no worries.. All good.. And maybe a bit of understeer is better.. But, don't go cheap on em.. My recommendation is these..

Going to do it - Eibach Springs and Rear Spacers

Adding spacers to widen the rear... correct me if I am wrong, but shouldnt this persuade the car into more oversteer? This should make the rear turning radius larger, therefore making it swing wide under hard cornering.

Our cars are designed with wider track in the front to induce understeer, reversing this should do the opposite. Which is really what the car needs, but probably not noticable with just spacers. More than likely would handle closer to neutral.

Widening the track alone certainly does not improve grip in the rear, though.

I'm no gear head and have not dealt great blows/mods to my suspension other than springs and 20mm rear spacers, but understear as I understand it is definitely the result and on the front wheel drive, more of a sturdy stance (Grip?) in the rear is a result. Either way, on a daily driver - not really relevant.. Going to feel more difference on the springs than on a set of rear spacers.

Did some reading on it and you are correct, widening rear track induces understeer. I guess there is some debate about it, but there are equations used by professional racers that calculate tire loading front and rear from several suspension specs including track width, and wider rear track causes more load on the front in every situation...

Not sure why that doesnt seem right.
