Default small BBK

So after reading some posts about civic type r, and rsx type s calipers, rotors and interchangeability, i decided to order parts for a 2006 Acura RSX type S.

Rotors - ebc 50$x2$ (11.75" compared to 10.8")
Pads - Hawk HPS 72$
Calipers - ebay - 80$ (acura sells reman. for 72 each...)
Caliper rebuild - 35$ (new pistons and seals)
Brake Fluid - ate 15$

Total 300$

some discoveries:

CRZ caliper piston and RSX caliper pistons are the same, However the calipers are not the same!

RSX caliper is larger to accomodate thicker brake pads, and has different piston positioning within the caliper body.

CRZ brake pads are a bit larger than type s pads, but not interchangeable.

CRZ caliper fits the type s bracket, however piston positioning is NOT correct, and the caliper is too small to accomodate rsx brake pads.

Minor cutting of the brake shield required to fit larger rotors.

Once the type S calipers are rebuilt and painted, will install them on the crz. Was a bit dissappointed that the piston diameters are the same, but there is more brake torque as the rotors are larger... but the rotors and calipers are heavier as well ...

Discovered after ordering type s parts, that wilwood makes a very affordable bbk for honda and acuras that would probably fit. summit racing had them for 6-700$ 320mm rotors & 4 piston calipers, need 17" rims tho.

RSX rotor/ CRZ rotor

RSX rotor, bracket, CRZ caliper (temporary measure as piston placement and pad fitment issues. (no space for shims)

Clearance with oem rim.

RSX-s caliper, painted blue and installed.

Sweet! Have seen several people do this.. and it is a nice way to go big! Looks good!

Do you notice that much of an increase in braking feel and control?

Isn't "small BBK" an oxymoron?

brakes seem to grab/bite more, that is probably the different pad more than anything else. havent really pushed the brakes, just the original brakes didnt seem very powerful. Maybe the pads were glazed.... not sure why the rotor is so black either lol, just not being able to trigger the ABS with these terrible tires or stop short was scary, hence the change.

no plans on the rear, will put in some better brake pads however.

i suppose anything that fits under a 16" rim cant even be called small bbk

I like that it still fits with the stock wheels. Would be nice to get the brakes slightly upgraded and still be able to use 16" wheels for track days and snow tires in the winter.
