I've never been a fan of VW, I had one that ended up getting replaced under the lemon law. I will say the GTIs, especially the VR6, drive really well when they are working. I think you may be a little disappointed with the power the CR-Z compared to the GTI... keep in mind the Z is a very fun car to drive. you should probably get yourself a test drive before you actually consider the trade.

Not going to be as fast as the GTI and you will not longer have easy power upgrades with just a flash/chip whatnot. Drive isn't the same either you are considering car with a rear beam suspension which isn't going to be as settled over bumps or rough pavement.
On the other hand you could be buying a much more reliable car with less expensive upkeep down the road. As for the interior you can pretty much get everything a modern GTI has in the CR-Z other than leather heated seats and sunroof but owners have found ways to add both in the aftermarket. Test drive is your best bet. |

Why are you thinking of changing from the GTI to CRZ?
I have a 07 GLI in addition to my CRZ and my father has an 09 GTI 6spd. +mpg +reliability +less cost of ownership -road noise - the CRZ can't compete with a German tank -ease of modding and availability or aftermarket parts |

Im going to test drive the crz, Im planing on trading in my gti and I'm looking for a better mpg more reliability car and less cost on maintenance, I know it is not as fast as the gti but I also want a car that is fun to drive and more affordable and I really like the crz interior! , Im also considering the new veloster.

I had a 2005 1/2 jetta 2.5 fully loaded, 2006 6 speed gti and 2007 gti dsg all of them began to fall apart at 50k miles, until that point they were all great cars handling/features on par with BMW/Mercedes if not better but something about when they hit 50k they just don't feel or operate like they used to. Just my opinion. Now the Crz is not as fast but it has alot in it's corner. very good functional feature package, it HONESTLY gets "35-40mpg" no matter where your at, it should have that Honda reliability everyone has talked about for decades
(only time will tell, however Sherman is past 50k and no real problems). Your going to get biased opinions on here but I tried to be as unbiased as I could be although you might see it shining through if you have any specific questions just let me/us know all of us on here should be able to answer anything about the crz.Matt |

Had a 2008 GTI with APR chip. 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and about 25 to 27mpg. Very reliable and up to now the best car I have ever owned. The GTI also had automatic and paddle shifters that worked really well.
That being said I now have a new CRZ cvt. Much slower but in sport mode it is quick enough. Paddle shifters in sport mode work very well. I am getting 38mpg and insurance went down about 10%. The CRZ handles and rides even better then the GTI which was excellent. I do not miss my GTI and love the looks of the CRZ. Stay away from the Veloster. They are having reliability problems |
