Default Portable GPS dash placement?

Hi,
My CRZ EX is ordered, but during a test drive I noticed how large & deep the dash is. I was wondering where any of you have positioned your portable window / dash mount GPS's? Pics would be nice too. Isnt there a pop up lid to a compartment right in the middle of the dash also?

There is a pop up compartment in the middle of the dash, but I've never tried to put my GPS in there... generally I just mount mine above the registration sticker.

Check down in the interior and ICE forum. My iPhone is vent mounted, and I'm thrilled with it there. May be able do something similar with standalone gps.

Uhm not saying its best idea but that pop up compartment seems to hold my phone up perfectly when i am using GPS off my phone, other than that I wouldnt recommend it to hold real gps kinda tacky looking...and phones are taller and thinner which makes it easy to prop under there.

My portable GPS came with a window suction mount & a metal adhesive disc ( silver dollar size) dash mount . You stick the suction cup to the disc on the dash if you are going to use it that way . Most dash's are plastic & the suction doesnt stick well to plastic or viynl. The disc is kind of permanent since its an adhesive, so I want to make sure I place it in a good spot. The dash being large & deep would place the unit far from the driver if used on the window, making it harder to read & reach to program. The suction sometimes releases dropping the unit to the dash so its not good to place it HIGH on the glass if it falls maybe causing damage to the gps ,so I try to keep it low. Any other ideas or locations?

I set my Garmin GPS in the front right coffee cup holder.
I inserted, upside-down, a drink glass (normally used for a Scotch and soda type drink), it fits perfectly. This leaves the base of the glass on top. Just attach your GPS suction cup to the glass.
The let coffee cup holder, same deal, holds my rearview camera monitor.
Both can be removed in seconds and stored in the glove compartment if required.

Those metal stick on type plates that you stick the GPS to will remove the dash finish if you try to remove it. The glue is strong.
Happened in my Volvo. Fortunatley not in a very visible place.

A good way to avoid the adhesive damaging your dash is a velcro type set up. We found out from an E-Z pass that sat in the sun too long.

Our pass fell off the windshield of my husband's Jeep. We left the two pieces stuck together and just set it on the dash. It won't move, but it also won't stick anymore.

I like several of these ideas & might try them once I get the vehicle. Thanks for the suggestions.
