Default Octane ?

Here in montana our regular gas is 85.5 midgrade 88 and premium is 90. Is it ok to still use the regular gas even though it is under the 87? I believe our manual says regular 87 octane. Anyone have any idea. I was thinking about that today for i have just been using the midgrade all year.

Higher altitudes can use lower octane and have the same effect.

Thats what i was wondering. I thought I have heard this before but thought i would check with some folks on here. I have just been using midgrade since all my trucks ran much better with it so i just kept using it with the Z. I will have to try some and see if i see an improvement or drop in mileage.
