A new car has surfaced that appears to be affordable, light, fun, and RWD. If you haven't guessed already I'm talking about the new Scion FR-S. I know that I am sick because I read about and look at the FR-S on the internet for hours... ![]() All the reviews so far say it is more fun than thirty strippers in a hot tub. When it comes out, I am going to take the FR-S out on a test drive (shhhhh, don't tell my Z) and if the case is compelling enough, I am thinking about taking the hit financially and selling the CRZ to get the FR-S. I know it is foolish, but sometimes something gets under your skin and you just have to do it, or regret not doing it. What do you guys think? Is it worth a shot, or is this a case of the grass being greener on the other side? |

You've been driving the Z long enough to know what it is for. It's a zippy little head turner that takes corners great. It's not a race car by any means. I personally love the look of the FR-S but I also believe it's going to be one of the cars you start to see everywhere. The CR-Z is still somewhat of a new car but it's still fun to be one of the few in my town with one. I thought the new Scion Tc was cool looking but now I see 6 every time I'm on the freeway to work. Pros/Cons I guess...

I say don't torture yourself about it until it comes to your local Scion store, then take one out and see if it blows you away. By that time, there may be more "real life" reviews that are more honest than those in previews. Keep in mind how the CRZ was mistakenly reviewed for a full year by most mags.
But if you really still feel it is "the one", and you can afford it, then go for it! Life's too short to be wishing you should have done something, on account of a few dollars. After all, isn't that how many of us wound up with our Z's???

^^^That's why I am so torn.
With the intake, tune, exhaust that I was planning on doing next month, I know that the CRZ would really come alive. But modding the CRZ to be RWD is far beyond my capabilities... ![]() As far as how common the FR-S will be by late summer, I am not really concerned. It is nice having a unique looking car (that is relatively rare) like the CRZ, but performance wins out for me every time. I always keep cars for several years, so this is really out of my nature. I will take a bit of a depreciation hit, but I have money saved to cover the difference and then some. As others have said, you only live once, so you might as well go out with no regrets. I think it will come down to the test drive... |

I like the proto type photos of the FRS but they are quickly screwing up the soon to be released one.
If I go back to rear wheel drive I may buy the car I have been looking at for years. Lotus Elise S/C You can find used ones for 30-40k. I drove a 2008 Supercharged one last year when I bought the CRZ and Wow!! Fast would be an under statement. Handling is rediclous. Drifting not a problem. It also get 30 mpg highway if driven normal. The wife is already on board so in a few years I will probably make a move. Right now I am having a lot of fun with this car. I agree with the only live once part. In the past 15 years I have owned (1992 5.0 decked out Mustang, 2002 Subaru WRX nicely modded, 2003 Celice GTS, 2004 Jeep Rubicon, 2005 BMW Z-4 3.0si, 2009 Tacoma truck, 2006 Infiiti G35 Coupe, 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan, Toyota Tundra and now the Honda CRZ. I have always driven the vehicles that I want. I have done very good on turning them for a profit. Some were new some used. But either way I had them. Will the lotus be next? I don't know. This is the joint Toyota/Subaru platform, no? I read that Subaru is saying its mostly Subie. If thats the cars to which you refer, I'd wait to see both first.
I think its a platform that should find lots of buyers looking for a RWD "near" sports car.

if you want a RWD performance car... always remember... There is NO replacement for DISPLACEMENT! Exco
