Default Local Dealer lets slip non-hybrid to come...

Hello, I'm new here and just joined. I am from the mid-west U.S. I love the sporty look and style of the CR-Z.

I was at my Honda dealer last week for a service on my M/T Fit Sport. I grew up and went to school with my salesman - he has always been straight with me and has worked for this dealer for over 20 years. I asked for something to have fun in while my car was being serviced and he apologized for not having a manual transmission CR-Z but gave me the keys to a CR-Z CVT. It had half a tank of gas and foot prints on the paper floor mat and the electronics in the car were partly down, I guess it had not been dealer serviced yet, the IMA was not finished being programmed or what ever. The GPS, radio and such were inoperable. (curiously in this state, it did not record the miles I put on it)

Anyway when I got back I told him it was fun but I expected quicker pick-up and the blind spots were horrible. He said "I guess your not interested then?" I told him I was, I liked the look of the car but it didn't feel like an upgrade to the Fit, driving wise. (No offense anyone.)

He told me Honda was coming out with a 160hp non-hybrid CR-Z. We talked $$ on trading in the Fit but he said he knew I wouldn't be happy with the hybrid version and mentioned the M/T was clunky. So with out any pressure he assured me he would have something more to my liking hopefully soon and to see him when the news is publicly confirmed.

I have my fingers crossed for a less sophisticated CR-Z (with out IMA) but with a bit more power. The two rumors I keep seeing on the net is a 160hp version and a 200hp turbo. I'm all about the 160HP if it runs on standard low octane gas (87 in the U.S.) Am I correct in assuming if a 200hp turbo is ever offered that would require the super high octane gas?

What makes me hesitant on buying a car with the sophistication of all the electronics associated with hybrids and Integrated Motor Assist is the cost of repair after the new car warranty is expired. With out that sophistication I hope to save a little $$ on the price of the car too.

Anyone else with me on this?

Sorry, but I'm doubting your local dealer would have the scoop.
And with the IMA warranty as long as it is, i'm guessing you'd be better off with it than a turbo or supercharger, if maintenance is your concern.

Funny a Honda sales rep would dis the transmission, too!
I have the CVT, so cannot personally comment, but from what others here have said, it is a pretty slick transmission.

Sorry, there is no way a salesman would know this information. Also, if there were to be a higher performance version, it would surely cost more (not less) no matter what drivetrain.

Sorry, but hate to agree with the above. A 160 bhp CR-Z doesn't look like it will happen. If you want something that powerful, you may want to look into the Fiat 500 Abarth, but there's no way to test drive that right now......

Hey, Dav101, I see this is your first post.. Welcome to the Forum...

Yea, the CR-Z was meant to be a Sports Hybrid from inception. Am pretty sure it will be in the future, albiet with maybe some power/performance inhancements.. Wouldn't put to much stake in what a local sales person states..

Its all good though and again, welcome to the forum..

So much back and forth...I'll believe it when I see it! I gotta agree with Scotty on this one. Sport Hybrid from the word GO. With newer battery technology already coming out in Hyundais and KIAs for Christ's sake, I'm sure Honda will eventually tweak the batteries and IMA system, and boost the N/A power a little too.

You have to remember; the entire world's economy is hurting right now.

Oh, and salesmen like to talk it up like they know the inside line on EVERYTHING, when in fact they know Jack Dammit.
