My husband decided that the CR-Z isn't allowed out after 5:15 pm, when the deer start to move. We can drive his vehicle (Grand Cherokee), but we can't drive mine. So, from now until Dec 12-15, when the rut is over, the CR-Z has to be parked by 5:15. Ya gotta love him for it. |

I don't know why nature didn't teach them to look before crossing. We are seeing a lot, one doe was hit and the buck was standing right by her. You never know when you are going to see them, but 5-7 pm seems to be the hot time around here. You drive around trying to make your eyes big, thinking you are going to see better. You only look ridiculous.

I clipped two deer at once on a hunting trip to eastern montana the first weekend in september. Luckily the Z sits low enough and the brakes work well enough that i went from doing about 65 to 30 in the blink of an eye and the two deer split one went one way the other went the other and i swerved for the smaller one and ended up takin the rear feet out of both of them. Luckily i didn't have to go you know what or else i would have been cleanin my britches and my seat. Luckily the impact was soft enought there was no damage but a light scuff in the dirt/dust on the car. I tell you from experience a deer looks a lot bigger in the Z than in full size trucks that i have been driving all my life...

Yeah, that darn deer jumped out in front of me from out of nowhere. You can see the pics of the damage here:
"Kissed my Deer" on Valentines Day (need advice on repairs) I have to say that the car absorbed the impact very well. I guess that because it sits relatively low, it actually hit the deer just below the body and sent it hurling up through the air. It was almost like a plow on the front of a train. The air bags did not deploy because the brunt of the impact was just above the bumper. Still, by the time it was all repaired, it was almost $5k in damages. Some things just suck....but, she's running just fine and the repairs were great. A month after I got the car back, I had another interesting experience. Ever seen a bird dive bomb a car and get pushed up with the air stream around the car? Well, a bird dove bombed a pickup truck traveling in the direction opposite to me and the thing swooped out infront of the truck and right into my path. The top edge of the hood caught it and I just heard a "thump". I don't know where the darn thing landed, but from the fine feathers left on the car, I doubt it survived. With a deer and a bird stamped onto its side as rememberances, my car's name is now "Killer"........ |

I've seen a few run right up onto the shoulder in front of me, before turning tail and running. We have a whole herd that traverse our farm, and another herd at my rural office. The whole county is crawling with them!
