Anyone else notice this. Both times it has happened to me I was distracted when coming to a stop and I just pushed the clutch in and coasted and kept the clutch in when I stopped and didnt pay attention to it nor being in 1st gear and both times I was on a up hill and when I let off the break and tried to let out the clutch and give it gas it just rolled backwards because the car does not auto start in any gear but first. |

Im confused. Your saying you want to start from a totally stopped position...on a hill...using some gear other than 1st?
Autostop makes its decisions based not only on your clutchwork but also on what you are doing with the brake. With my 6mt, if I am dropping under ~20 mph with the clutch in, it will not initiate autostop until I also press the brake pedal. Then if I get down to say 10 MPH and I want to begin accelerating again I can have the car in 2nd and let off the brake and the car instantly restarts. It restarts not because I let the clutch out, but because I let off the brake. AFTER I let off the brake and the car restarts in 2nd I let out the clutch and resume driving. This is all normal and dandy, but of course the most important point is I never actually dropped below 10 MPH, while you make it sound like you want to do this from a stop. So again just to be clear, are you saying you are trying to start from a stop (on a hill no less) in 2nd or 3rd gear? Because that really isn't...recommended... |

With the clutch in the car will AUTO STOP in any gear when it gets slow enough. If you forget to switch to first gear and you accidentally try and start off in another gear and you expect the car to auto start like normal when you let out the clutch, it will not auto start. |

i dont know why that would happen because like andrew, my auto stop turns back on depending on what im doing with the brake. if i'm rolling in neutral and the car is auto-stopped already, the minute i let off the brake (still in neutral) while i'm still rolling, the car starts back on before i even put it into gear.
i, however, have never attempted to start from a dead stop in 2nd or 3rd, but my guess is, there has to be something that turns the car back on with 1st gear if you're at a complete stop, let alone on a hill.

i have an entire thesis on the auto stop that I'm trying to write
your specific problem is cause by you not triggering the "clutch at bottom" sensor we have two sensors on the clutch one before and after mechanical engagement the one is used for cruise control and others the bottom is used for auto stop try pressing the clutch pedal all the way down when your done with it for a while before you coast around if this doesn't work, your failing to meet some other criteria the car needs. ill have a list later |

However, as to it not starting again, thats because you are trying to start from a complete stop (0mph) in a gear other than first (because you are forgetting, apparently). Also normal... put it in first gear for it to start back up again |

The car is telling you that you have forgotten something, it's a hint.
It is working as designed. It will not Auto Stop while in 1st, I use that to advantage at quick stop signs.
