Default Oil Change / Maintenance ?

So i've had my CRZ for just about a year now. I commute to work via public transportation so it's really just a weekend car for me, so i only about 4k miles thus far.

I've yet to get any maintenance or service done. The oil life indicator is still at 70%, should i just proceed as normal, or should i be looking to go in for a service check or at least an oil change?

What's ur experience been, any advice? it's been a long time since i've had a 'new' car, so i'm not sure what i should be expecting.

Yes, you should. The oil life is not that long and non-syntactic oil it is even shorter.

If you can see through it, leave it in a while longer. If it's dark enough that you couldn't read through it, change it.

It is my opinion that the special blend from the factory has to do with break in of critical components. Changing it now would be a dis-service to the break in.

To those who say change it, I would suggest that it isn't much different than a car that sat on a dealers lot for a long time and was occasionally test driven.

OTOH, if it has sat for months on end without driving, where humidity/condensation form and sit for extended periods of time, that's just not good for the car period.

Once a year or MM 15 percent. Honda use ConocoPhillips semi-synthetic 5w20 or full synthetic 0w20.

Funny you should post this. I, too have low miles, less than 4K, but purchased in 3/2011, so I thought that I should get a change done. Figured that every six months regardless of miles, would be just about right. Anyway, I'll quote the Service Manager at the local Dealer, from my trip there this past weekend..."For the initial break-in, factory puts a special oil in that helps the engine 'get set', i.e., rings, head, etc., changing the oil now would do more harm than good. Reduced gas mileage, engine life,..etc. Come see me again at 12 months or 15% oil life, whichever is first, and that is what Honda recommends. After that, your six month plan for oil changes would be just about right."

I am at 60% now, but if that is what Honda recommends, then I'll follow it.

1 year or 15 percent. The additives are on the pistons skirts and since the motor is clean there is no by products in the motor yet. The piston rings are ION(harden) and the Plataea Honed cylinders so its already consider broken in. Time is need for the moly and other additives to coat the engine properly. I change the oil when the MM reads 15 percent in my Civic. On my third oil change with dealer mainline oil(5w20) and its still clean after 1000 miles on the oil. 7000 miles is when I change the oil.
