Default sweet whine in sports mode.

Anyone else notice a whine from their Z while in sport mode? I never noticed till today but it almost sounded like a super charger but it probably was from the IMA. Like I said it was the first time I heard it... Anyone else get this whine? And if not, should I be worried? It was a pretty sweet whine and I wish it was there all the time lol.

Should hear it whenever you see the IMA assist light come on to varying degrees - depending on how hard you are pushing it. Nothing to worry about.. I - at times - hear it more in ECON - especially going up a hill.

I hear it in sport mode also...I kind of like the sound it sounds like a remote controlled car. ...Ironically, the sound doesn't happen in my gf's CR-Z.

I don't notice a whine, but I do notice a 'chuff' during shifts when I'm leaning on it a bit.

Oh, I got the CVT so now shifts for me.

Also, I think I only noticed it today because I was on the phone while driving so I didn't have music to drown out the whine.

Sounds like you have a blown motor, take it in to Honda.

I've had the whine from day one and it's normal. I notice it above 60 mph and it sounds like a whining supercharger sound like on my 2005 Cooper S. It does get a bit annoying when you are in Sport mode and going over 75mph. Once you switch to normal that whining noise goes away.

I think that has to do something with the IMA, does it not? After all, most hybrid vehicles are portrayed as being "super quiet that you can drive through a forest and not disturb the wildlife"

This is normal.

Good to know, I've actually been playing around with this since I first noticed it. It's the IMA for sure, and it's way more noticeable in sport more, especially with the windows up. Now that I notice it, I keep myself in sport mode more often... *sigh* I kinda wish it was louder actually.
