I'll be honest, it may have been stupid of me to do it, but I could afford it. and I'm loving every minute of it now... I got mine last week, I'm 17, going on 18 in 4 days!
Its more realistic to get a used car, but not too used, perhaps a year or two old, still with Factory Warranty on it. Low mileage of course. If you can afford it, by all means GO! ...In terms of price, I would try to get as good as a deal as possible, this means the demo model if at all possible. Insurance is crazy expensive for new drivers, so its important to get that checked out before you buy. I did it. But then again, it was 70% my parents paying so... If you're good with the stock market, go ahead! I'm planning on paying them back soon, in less than 2 years time, and I'm covering insurance with my part time job and my skills with the stock market

I JUST turned 20 when I was in the process of buying this car; and it was also my first NEW car.
Things to keep in mind in my opinion are: -Don't try and "man up" and go without your parents help (it is likely they have bought a new car before) -You will get a First Time Buyer's discount on the car which should knock off about $1,500. -Test drive of course -Insurance is higher for me than it was on my S2000 because of the expensive to replace hybrid components in the car. -Don't get the manual transmission just to appease others; this car has 3 ECU-presets and paddle-shifters on the steering wheel. So if you're not seasoned with "stick", there's still plenty of "shifting" and drive controls to dick with in this car. I got the EX primarily because of the HID headlights, and Bluetooth. (better sound system, and nicer interior was a + though) But I got the CVT and I am happy with it. My previous car before this was an S2000, and while I do miss the power and ACTUALLY SHIFTING, I am more than content with this car. Also, I don't know if the friends you have are like the ones I had at your age, but... they'll need to grow up and get their license and their own cars. (2-seater)

I would learn to drive a stick on a friends or family members older car first if you have the opportunity. My first stick shift was a 9 yr old car and I spent weeks learning how to drive it, months before I was smooth at it. A year and a half later I had to replace the clutch because it slipped in higher gears.
Even after 6 years of driving a stick, the CRZ took time to get used to with the electric throttle. I dont think I would have enjoyed learning on a brand new car lol. But even if you have to, I say go for it!
