Default USB drive

I have a 32GB USB drive that I put some music on to listen in my car. But I get the message it is NOT supported. Is there a particular type of USB drive I have to get? I put the music in the drive as mp3.

I think the drive has to be formatted as Fat32.

It should work - mine is 32gb too. The files have to be MP3, WMA or AAC. I suggest rearranging them so there aren't too many folders though. All folders are shown "flattened" rather than in a tree structure, so that you may have to scroll through 200 folders of one genre before you reach the next.

That's funny cause my 32 gb USB drive has no problems at all.

Could it be the year? Maybe more recent cars support larger USB drives.

I can't see why it wouldn't work, I use a 64GB USB in mine, never had a problem.

I occasionally get the same message from my I-phone, I just turn the radio off and back on and it reads it.

intersting - my iPod Shuffle gets USB UNSUPPORTED but my 8GB USB thumb drive works just fine. I just xfer the MP3 files I want without putting them into folders. Also it is formatted as FAT32.

I can't find it now but when I was getting a usb stick for my car I found a thread that said 16GB drives wouldn't work and that partitioning it to 15GB and 1GB would fix it. Though it might be a problem with older sticks because I'm using a 16GB and others above said it worked. Try to partition it or pick up a newer stick (I can confirm the "SanDisk - Cruzer Fit 16GB USB Flash Drive" works in my car, it's the size of a thumbnail and under $20)

Also once you finally get this working you'll likely notice that your songs aren't in the right order. I have come to find out that FAT32 orders files based on date modified, not alphabetically by name or anything fancy like that. If you're picky about it like me you can use a sorting utility that will go through your entire drive and modify your songs so that they are sorted alphabetically (all the mp3s must be 01 - Song Title.mp3, etc. Don't worry there are utilities that will do this, too)

This tutorial was very helpful. And on an embarrassing note it took me about a month to realize I can press the volume knob in and turn it to select from my 50+ albums on my USB drive. I had been pressing "next" one album at a time.
