Default What?!

OK got my windows tinted today from my shop I always go to. Will put up pics in a build thread later on tonight. Anyways while picking it up they owner/tech asked me about the mileage on the "Z". I responded rated 34 combined and that I'm getting around 40mpg currently. Also noted that I have read of reaching mid 40s +. So he tells me that a guy just brought in a NEW TDI Golf that was purchased for 17-18k and that it gets 50mpg. I said c'mon no way but he was stuck on that answer. What do you guys think, have you heard that?

Not uncommon. I remember watching a top gear episode where clarkson drives 750 miles on one tank of fuel in a diesel Jag which worked out to something like 60 mpg.

VW USA website TDI Clean Diesel < TDI Clean Diesel & Hybrid < Volkswagen of America suggests 41- 43 hwy is the correct figure.

Older Diesel Golf models, with less weight an fewer emissions controls, did 60/imperial gallon.

So we can match that in the Z. Not bad at all. I'm still not paying 25k for a tiny car sorry.

I wouldn't doubt it, my cousin just bought a new Jetta GLI TDI, his average is about 700-800km per tank where as I average 500km.

Good friend of mine's 2012 Jetta TDI 6MT

50 mpg is pretty normal for that car. I wouldn't mind one either. The torque is phenominal. It's got plenty of room in it.

Just because we drive a "hybrid" doesn't mean we get the best MPG on the road. Diesels are extremely efficient vehicles these days.

Yeah diesels ftw for the least impact to the environment (and not just mpg either). I wish more diesel cars would come here.

Plenty of downsides to diesels too.
