I don't have a reference on the internet if that's what you mean. The issue that sparked this was fuel conservation: there's no way I'm doing 30mph in 6th gear to conserve fuel. I'm exaggerating a little, but some comments on this forum about fuel conservation frankly scare me. It's going to be hard to convince me that won't hurt your engine.

This is where I'm coming from:
1.) The lower the rpms, the lower the oil pressure (because like you said, the pump's connected to the crank).
2.) Going up a steep hill increases engine load
3.) Low pressure and high load means less oil delivery to the bearings than high pressure, low load.

I appreciate this discussion, and keeping things civil (i.e., not flaming out on each other), but if there's something with the CR-Z that increases oil pressure at low rpm or somehow equalizes the load on the engine no matter what speed/rpm, or if there's something I'm missing, I'm all ears.

All good, no animosity here.

Simply put though, oil pressure is stable and nearly constant just off of idle, maybe 1100 rpms or so. Engine lugging doesn't feel great, but won't hurt anything as far as oiling is concerned.

I should probably say I don't have a good reference point as far as new cars go. I've messed with cars for almost 25 years. My last new car though was an AT 2001 Honda Accord with manual windows and locks no less, so there ya go.

Getting behind the wheel of the CR-Z is like "Holy crap, what have I been missing?". It's fun and a little baffling at times; I have a lot of questions so I appreciate your input.

I was just relating my observation of driving in ECO mode where if I shift as directed, I'd be driving at 29 mph in 6th, which as you mentioned is outrageous, and myself can't drive in such a manner in Florida; Most cars would stall out in 4th gear at 29 mph, so the IMA brings new driving choices if one desires. One low rpm condition that's is bad for an engine is 'lugging' it, where a driver tries to accelerate in a certain gear, and instead he should have downshifted, and it's one case for your low-speed is bad positon. The IMA motor is effective from 0 rpm (start-up) and peaks at 1,500 rpm, it basically covers the IC engine's a.. . An example is where I've never stalled-out in my 6MT since buying it in January 2011. As you said, the CR-Z is a new type of car, and BMW, Porsche, and Audi all have sports hybrids planned for the near future.
