I have searched a ton and can't find the answer! I noticed the new CR-Z EX has the (JDM) HID headlights with the row of LED's below them. This is the only thing that I do not like on my 2011 with the dimmed hi-beam light for the DRL - just looks like a dim bulb about to go out.
I checked a couple of Honda dealer parts guys and they don't know if they just plug up and go! The illustrations with the parts guides have all the exact same connectors, mounting and hid stuff as my 2011 EX headlights except for the headlight assembly themselves. And these are listed for $362 ($516 MSRP). Has anyone tried to plug a new LED headlight into a 2011 or 2012? I have the 2011 Helms manual and I know the problem may be in the MICU which controls all the lights. There is only 1 circuit to the high beams now for the 4 and 12 volt source which is controlled by the MICU.
Thanks for the help, this would be great if it would work.
I don't know if this helps, but here in Aus the LED daytime running lights are standard on the 2011 model and have always been. Not totally necessary to try and source a 2013 set, but yeah probably expensive just like all the other sources out there.
They connect to fuse 15. They are always on and come on with accessories and dim when the headlights / high beams are on. As far as wiring I can't tell as it's quite tight in there. If i get a chance I'll get some detailed photos of them and try to trace the wiring.
The headlight levelling comes from a dial (that I believe is missing from the USDM dash) on the dash on the same side as the 3-mode switches, shown here:
It's a button, but only comes out to make it easier to turn. The manual states to push it in only to prevent accidentally changing it. It also states that the models that come with HID headlights are auto levelling.
Here's another thought, I have a 2013 base model and want to switch over to the EX headlights, I wonder if mine would be in the same boat as you guys or if mine is plug in play. What do you guys think?
Hi. Can anyone tell me, please. I have japan version of CRZ. But i broke the glass on my headlight. I dont want to order new headlight for 1500$. Is the headlight's cover glass of 2013 will fit the my 2011 model?!
From what we could tell, based on the posts in this thread, (and mostly based on the US model), the headlight housing should be the same size and shape. I do not believe there would be a difference in the Japanese model, either. I would think that you are OK. But how is it going to help you? Plan on stealing one off a 2013 CR-Z at a dealership? LOL.
Hello here and a newbie as well. I myself have been looking into this for some time and have been working along with my friend on his spare time which is also the local Honda mechanic. What we have determined is that MICU (maybe backwards?) turns on the highbeams but cuts voltage by 70% until the low beams come on then the DRl are de-energized. I've been looking for a company that could reprogram the system but have not had any luck. Lets keep looking into this as I will install these ASAP if we could figure it out. I figure someone will in time.
Not only has it been done, but we also told you everything that you'll need in this very thread...
Anyways, I'll sum it up... This is everything one would need for the conversion:
Right Headlight (33101-SZT-A31) $361.25
Left Headlight (33151-SZT-A31) $361.25
DRL Connector (04321-SP0-306) $26.95 pack of 5 (need 2)
Connector Pigtail (04320-S6M-A00) $15.83 pack of 10 (need 4)
Just swap in the headlights and plug everything from the OEM harness into it. The 2013+ headlight has an extra connector when compared to your original... This is the DRL LED connector and this is why you need the last two items on the list above. You will create your new DRL LED circuit with those parts. The only thing you need to figure out is how you want the LEDs to turn on and wire them up to a switched 12V supply, either via it's own switch or wire it up to come on with something else, like ignition or fogs.
If you read this whole thread, you'll pretty much know everything we do!
The short answer is "yes, but not exactly as OEM, and it will take you some effort to make it work. Plus, the lights are not cheap."
Well, I was kinda picking on you - but if you read and understood this entire thread, then you should realize that the only way to do it like OEM would be to, basically, buy an EX model or all the parts to make it an EX (including the HID's and the MICU computer which controls the DRL's). And Honda isn't going to do that for you! Otherwise, it will be like putting in any aftermarket lighting system, as you will have to rig it differently from OEM. Honda isn't going to do that for you either, as the liability would be too great, and if it caused electrical problems in future, Honda would be stuck with the repair.
Prove me wrong - I'm OK with that. But I agree with Luder - it won't happen.
They might physically mount the lights into the front openings for you - that's the easy part - but you won't have HID's or LED DRL's unless the rest of the wiring and controls are there.
the 2011-12 MICU does not have the proper wiring for the LED DRLs and you will have to custom run your own wires. otherwise the headlights fit no problem.
Nobody really wants to try and custom wire them so it hasn't been done yet.
I still want to do it but 700$+ just to have LEDs on the front is kind of steep.
okayy.... i read through this whole thread and face palm myself i have forgotten some parts of it lol but please cut me some slack. alright soooo. thanks item9 for the parts list. from what you guys are saying is the ex models are the ones that comes with drl and hid correct? the confusing part is reading some nonsense here is that the 2011 ex models have the connectors for the led? or nah. and we are going to have to buy the connectors and rig the leds to a power source from which no one has done yet?..... fill me in on my questions thanks in advance
I know Armanda did this to her CRZ. They had to buy the headlights and the extra plug, that the 13+ headlights have, and splice the new plug into the engine harness.
