Default Roof rack.

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and and have not bought the car yet as it all depends on wether it is possible to fit a roof rack or not, especially to the GT. We need to carry a canoe weighing 25 KG and about 4Mts long and 95 cms wide. Honda dont make one and I have seen the retro fit adverts which say you can.Anyone had any experience of a particular make? We have always carried it on our Toyota Celica and get strange looks when you overtake on a motoway! Unfortunately we couldnt fit it to our Lotus Esprit Turbo as that would be taking things a bit far!
Cheers Paul.

Honda do make a roof rack, but on certain markets it is unavailable as people managed to smash their rear hatch window on stuff and break it. I have the OEM roof rack on mine to carry ski/snowboard. If Honda do not make anything to carry a canoe, I'm sure you could fit something from another roof rack on to it. There are also aftermarket roof racks that should do the trick.

Thanks Varg, I have been looking at Thule racks, which seem to wide enough although I havnt found the weight limit yet, but it should be OK. I am concerned about the glass roof of the GT not allowing a greater weight to be added as opposed to the strength of a solid roof.

If that were the case, I would be more worried about rolling the car The roof rack doesn't rest on the glass part, it rests on the outside just above the door.

Thanks, I realise it doesnt sit on the glass I was just cocerned about the general roof structure being slightly weaker with the glass insert rather than the all metal roof. I am also a bit concerned about how wide apart the bars will be.I am going to check tomorrow what is the furthest apart I can get them on the head of the door. The Celica roof rack bars are 70 cm. apart which is fine although the car is about 300mm. longer so the front and back over hangs on the Honda will be about 300mm. Perhaps I should take up another hobby!!
