Should I go by the book and ask them to use the correct oil or it shouldn't harm that much to use this oil until the next change? Thanks |

I would definitely have them correct this. The engine is not an area that should be messed with... if the book says 0W-20, the dealership should put in 0W-20. If they refuse to fix it, then get them to sign something that says that they are OK with putting 5W-30 in, so that if any warranty issues surface later, you can take it back to them and make them pay for anything.

Pensacola Honda did the exact same thing to both me and Goose's CR-Zs. When asked about it, they just said "Meh, that's what we put in there".
We'll be doing our own oil changes from now on...but you're right. It is B.S. Maybe that's why our mileage has gone down a tick or two?

I contacted Honda UK and I was told that as long as the dealership uses one of the oils listed on the manual, it should be ok and "unlikely to affect its overall performance dramatically" (sic).
On the manual it does state that for vehicles without reminder system, like mine, you should use a low viscosity oil in order to use less fuel. But then they provide a chart where you can select the proper viscosity oil depending on ambient temperature, namely 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30. And actually 5W-30 is the one that suits better the climate where I live (winter temperatures seldom below 5.C and summer temperatures well above 30.C). So, I guess I'll give it a try. |

@ SS2CRZ - Yea, agreed. Don't let the Honda Service Department do your oil change. Made the mistake back in 07 bringing my Civic Hybrid in for the first (Free) oil change. They put 5w20 dino as opposed to the 0w20 blend. Never went back.
@ Ocorreia - just took a paruse (again) of my owners manual and the only recommended oil I see is the 0w20 (USDM). |

@ Scotty,
The EDM manual does mention these 3 types of oil, although they recommend a low viscosity oil (0W-20 for cars with service reminder and and 0W-30 without). Since the dealership is being backed up by Honda, I see no point in returning there and ask to change the oil. It would be interesting to know what other Europeans are using... |
