I'm trusting that the gearbox in the CR-Z is solid, it's a Honda, and built extremely well - I have no reason not to believe it wouldn't withstand quite a bit. That being said, when merging onto a highway, I'm typically running 4th gear up the ramp at around 55-60mph. Usually hovering around 4,500rpm. From that point, if I'm in the clear, I will typically apply WOT, in which I have noticed the car pull RPMs up to like 5-5.5k, but lose rpm. Is this a green feature, because the electric motor is on full blast? Or is my car potentially losing copious amounts of back pressure, thus losing throttle? Curious if anyone else drives as... aggressively as I. |

Try to be a little more descriptive...
1) Are you in eco mode when this happens? If so have you tried it, say, in sport mode instead? 2) If the car is pulling from 5k to 5.5k rpm, aka increasing rpms, how is it also losing rpms? This was a very unclear statement. The redline is just over 6k i believe, and I usually shift by then but havent noticed anything unusual. Its also possible your battery is down to 3 bars where it stops using IMA assist. Check your battery meter when this happens.

Only reason I can see it losing rpms would be VSA. Try it in sport mode with VSA off. When I track the car or even just in sports mode I turn it off. My rutine for switching to sports is actually pressing the VSA button at the same time.

2. Will be hovering about 4-4.5k RPM, apply WOT, then it will lose RPMs after a quick second of WOT at around 5.5k, which will drop it back down maybe to 4.5-5k RPMs. I'm not sure how it's losing RPMs, that's why I posed the question here - I know it's losing RPM because the tachometer clearly shows the car draining RPMs. Battery is usually fine - during this whole time, the IMA is on full blast... as I stated in my original post. Any tips on getting over that orange light there, mate? |

my guess too would be VSA kicking in, but i go WOT a lot and never experience VSA. its not like our cars would have enough power to make the tires lose traction at 4.5k in 4th gear.
how many miles do you have on your car already? could it be your clutch slipping already?

If you aren't comfortable turning VSA off, just watch for the light flashing when you get the rpm drop. Most likely it is trying to correct wheel spin or wheel slip due to understeer/oversteer.
...and yes, the stock tires are HORRIBLE. I still have them in my garage. I tried to give them away on FB, but noone wants them! |

Also, I forgot to mention - I'm running CVT, using the tapshift controls - so I don't think it's the clutch. Sorry, that was an important detail I left out. |
