Question Can Someone PLS explain Down/Mid/Front pipes etc.

So I found that headers are integrated. Can someone please explain the down/mid pipes ect. I read all over and still confused. What pipes does the CR-Z have? can you mix and match pipes with exhaust systems???? Any explanation or examples would be helpful.

Downpipe connects to the header(s!?) and has an O2 sensor and a catalytic converter. The midpipe comes after the downpipe and is the longest pipe. The axleback connects to the midpipe and has the muffler that you see coming out of the back of your car.

For the CRZ it goes (Engine/header(s!?)) - (downpipe) - (midpipe) - (axleback)

Buying a "catback" exhaust means you are getting both the midpipe and the axleback.

From What I understand it should be OK to mix and match your pipes but the fit might vary slightly from company to company.

C'mon TinTin, there's 4 pipes that connect to 1 coming out of the back of the motor, so its "headers" get it right

no hate here. But technically we don't have a traditional header. We have a 4 to 1 collector built into the head that comes out to the cats. Not a typical header where each exhaust port exits the head then collects through a series of pipes to funnel the gasses out the exhaust.

On most inline 4 cylinder cars they usually have only one header, meanwhile V6's V8's etc etc have two headers for the left side and right side, so to say "headers" is correct but for an engine where only one header is needed "header" is the proper terminology.
