Default Cat delete; retaining stock piping

I decided today to go ahead and delete the secondary catalytic converter, but also keep the original piping installed in an attempt to keep a 100% factory appearance.

Welding

More welding

Finished

I used a mild stainless 2.00 inch pipe with stainless rod to keep everything rust free and hide the mod. Hopefully after a few hundred miles the pipe will bronze up a bit and be hidden completely.

I noticed a midrange power increase between 3000-4000rpm, which was a nice surprise since I noticed "zero" audible change in the exhaust. Good mod...highly recommended.

Looks good!
I've recently been thinking about purchasing one of the delete pipes.. Wish I were equipped to do that myself.

The 2nd Catdelete downpipe seems to work at advertised... A recommended mod if your looking for a few extra HP and Torque numbers and feel at a relatively cheap price.. Especially if you do it yourself as Mach has done..

Good job and thanks for sharing.. Looks great..

If you remove your catalytic converter, you might be able to get some good monies for it, there's a dramatic rise in SUV catalytic converter theft in south Florida for the rare metals I guess, or maybe there's a demand for used converters to be repurchased at discount by the victims of theft.

True on the recycling of catalytic converters.

The metals are: platinum, rhodium, and palladium. Some have a 4th catalyst but not all.

I bet I could get 15 bucks for this cat from the CRZ.

I'm keeping mine though.

Does the 2nd Cat Delete significantly affect SMOG emmisions? If it wasn't required, begs the question why Honda Engineers put it there in the first place???

The CR-Z here in the US is rated as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV) in states that adhere to California Air Resources Board (CARB) ZEV standards, i.e., they put it there to get the AT-PZEV rating.

Yes, with deleting the second cat you are probably no longer a true ATPZEV, but when factoring gas mileage etc., you are still more green than 99% of the other rides out there while giving the CR-Z a little more - eh - ummph on the SPORT side..

IMO still all good. Almost like guilt free mods..

I think I am going to buy my father a pipe bender for christmas and then we can ah, test it out, by deleting my second cat and maybe the muffler too, and give it a center exit under the bumper
