Right first of all please excuse my lack of knowledge.. I literally know nothing of any technical part of how a car works.. But anyway... (I'm in the UK btw) There are companies out there that remap cars etc etc, more specifically a company called 'black code' I was talking to them and they said their mapping would probs add about 10% more HP which is fine.. But would this mean when they wipe the ecu to put theirs on that you only end up with one driving mode.. Eg sport.. Or would it be smart enough to just give 10% more power in each of the different modes.... I hope that made some sense :s sorry for my complete newbie knowledge, I just wish to expand my brain power

Personally I wouldn't trust any companies that do remapping unless their reputation is at least Good.
About the modes - it's all based in different throttle responses, so wiping the ECU may in fact leave you with only One mode. But I highly doubt they would give different power outputs to each of the modes unless they invest a pretty penny into it... You could go for alternatives... Spoon's ECU, or J's if you have the patience you can wait and see what Hondata is up to.I think you should throw in some supporting mods (e.g Full system exhaust, Air intake, TB etc) to get the most out of a ecu map. You could get the best of both worlds - more power, and better economy. Just my opinion... |

It is a reputable company, and can be put back to the original. They also re do it free of charge if the dealer flashes it with an update or w.e... I suppose the only way I will know is to ask them! They also seem to refund your money and put it back to how it was if your not satisfied..

^ Keep us posted if you do it.. Agree with TinTin.. Warranty could be at risk.. Do your homework.. Not sure how it works in the UK..
Thinking you would be one of the first here (a Pioneer?) to actually do an ECU only upgrade as opposed to bolt ons.. and to post results etc... Looking forward to it if you decide to go this direction.. |

On this subject; will ie. the Spoon ECU fit on any car JDM/EDM/USDM. I couldn't see any option to select region when I looked at the Spoon cam kit. I read somewhere that at least the USDM and JDM ECUs were different.

My thoughts on the matter were that if I did (god forbid) crash the car and the insurance company found a stinking large K&N kit etc on the car I would get nothing back lol but if it's all stored in the chip it can easily be flashed back to the original...
I I'll definitely be going back to the shop to ask some questions.. It does cost around £150 for them to do but it's a money back guarantee if the different isn't noticeable. Will be interesting to see what they say. What I know for certain is that it works wonders on diesels... The guy was talking about his brother that had it done,, he had a 1.4diesel Polo and had it all done and now he's thrashing most BMWs off the line. I think even an extra 10-15HP will make a fair bit of difference? Also if it's done properly I should still end up with the 3 different modes... Just they will all have the extra HP? Think I will definitely give it a go! |
