I have now been using this method to charge and slow the car down. Once I see a red light approaching I'll press the brake pedal only to activate the energy zapping that the IMA motor does to recharge, and once the red light is close I fully press the brake, so that the pads stop the car. I've found that this charges the battery very fast, but it also activates the brake lights even though the pads aren't being used to slow the car just yet. I can hear the IMA battery fan blasting when I do this. |

It's a standard hyper-mileing trick based on the way the Honda IMA controls work. I used to do it on my 1st gen Insight.
It's great to do when you are comming to a stop, going down a steep hill or just want to slow down a ittle (because the Bozo in front of you drives like a old lady). And if you want to charge but you aren't moving, put it in neutral and rev it to 3,000 RPM and hold it. It's a builtin charge feature.
