Default Rev-limiter removed, Honda CR-Z becomes a fast car.

Hello!

I have a European version of the Honda CR-Z 1,5 liter.
Some car-reporters said that by removing the rev limiter (from 6500 rpm) to 8000+ rpm the car will get from 0-62 mp/h in just 6,9 seconds.

Can anybody tell me if this is true, or how it can be done?

Thanks for your time!

Increasing to 8000 is probably silly. The car does not make that much power past 6500 rpms without a cam change. Increasing by a few hundred RPM's to 6800 or 7000 would probably do something. I doubt you will decrease the 0-60 by that much but I bet it would be a decent improvement. The car tops out @ 57mph in second gear so 60 requires another shift. Depending on the driver this adds anywhere from .3 to a full second in the 0-60. A few hundred RPM letting you hit 60 in 2nd would be good.

That being said to increase the rev limiter you're going to need a stand alone ems, a greddy emanage ultimate or to beg and cajole hondata into making flash pro application for our car.

None are cheap.

not to mention some sort of controller to control the IMA.

Probably not. I think in Bisi's car the IMA shuts off at the factory max which I think is like 7200 rpms? I mean if you're reving that far you have cams or FI. Your engine would be making enough power to make the IMA pointless at that RPM.

We might see this in a future RSX based on an aluminum / carbon-fiber CR-Z with a 2.0 DOHC i-VTEC with cams for high fuel efficiency below 6,000 rpm, and F1 high cam power to an 8,000 plus redline. Also, lithium-ion batteries for the IMA for hybrid fuel-efficiency, and capacitive charge / discharge 'coil-winding-in-die-electric' magnetic field storage (short-term less than 24 hours) for heavy current short burst acceleration, and additional brake assist from high energy recovery back into the coil's magnetic field.

I seriously doubt this.

Right now the car runs out of power way before the redline is hit. Extending it would not add much, IMO.

Check out some of the dyno charts the torque is falling off a bit but since the RPMs are going up the HP keeps increasing nearly to redline:

OFFICIAL Dyno Charts Thread

The thing to be considered though increasing the rev range a bit is not 100% if you make more power at 6700 but if your shift brings you into a better part of the powerband also.

Edit: That being said I think the idea of some of us pioneering with some of these EMS's may be better than spending nearly as much in bolt ons. Ignition advance and running premium fuel probably would make about as much power as all the airflow bolt ons for the car.
