Default AJR CRZ Dyno !

Hi Guys,

I think a lot of you has been wondering how much the stock CRZ 6MT is making and now I have the answers for you.

We performed the dyno test with Dynapak and the results are SAE Corrected. We are developing an intake and exhaust so this will be our baseline as well.

Honda rated the CRZ at 122hp and on the dyno it showed 110whp and 116 ft/lbs tq. This is only about 10% drivetrain lost which is pretty impressive compared to AJR Fit (GE8), with intake and exhaust, we made 115whp

We ran it a few times and the our CRZ ran out of electric (charge) assist and there was a huge hp loss I will be posting that plot shortly

Thanks
Ben

There were almost no deceleration on the dyno so the IMA system cannot get the battery charged so we did another run for fun and the results was surprising.

Yellow line : stock Pink line: with no charge

With no charge there were huge hp & tq loss. From 3500-6500rpm there were about 10-12whp & tq.

i'm not sure if i read it or not... but it seems to look like some form of VTEC working in around 3800rpms... that's generally what a car with VTEC dyno looks like...

i think the R18 Civic uses VTEC at the lower rpms since it's for eco and at the upper rpms the vtec disengages around 3500rpms and you get slightly more power... i haven't read up on those is quite some time so i could be mistaken...

can anyone confirm any of this??

Yes, bear. On the R-series, VTEC is an opposite of what usually it is known for.
When vtec is not kicked in, the engine works as it's at "high cam". When the condition is right, vtec kicks in and switch over to "eco" mode/"low cam".

That's the reason I'm glade Honda doesn't put R-series on CR-Z. Although, it makes more power, it's not really a sporty engine.

Can anyone explain why the dyno results here are so completely different that those posted in the other thread that resulted in an SAE corrected plot that looks like this:

not sure TCroly... but i have a feeling that the OP is the more accurate one... there's no reason why the engine should lose around 23% power through the 6MT as shown in the graph you showed... maybe another company but not from Honda...

a 10-15% loss is more accurate than +20%... then again, they also could've tested a lemon... i dyno'd 190hp stock on my Si multiple times... others dyno'd 180hp-185hp... and one friend dyno'd 165hp this was ALL on the exact same dyno on the exact same day...

Also, it depends on the type of Dyno too. I believe that Mustang dynos are the worst at getting good numbers (There was a 900HP supra, and first pull, it only reflected like 500 or so...)

Besides the overall peak HP, the torque curves are shaped differently.
