Most people in San Antonio go from Novice to Tire, but I am not exactly sure what "Tire" consists of as it is not in the SCCA handbook. Street Touring specifically restricts Hybrids in the handbook, so poo on them ![]() I would like to stay HS, but I want to get better tires. What are the restrictions for tires to stay stock? Would going from the crummy Dunlaps to Star Specs put me in a different class? The closest size of star spec would have to be 205/50R16, not 195/55R16 which is stock. But now Honda offers "17 wheels... does that count as stock? Any help clearing any of this up would be greatly appriciated. Thanks Jeff |

H Stock. The official SCCA class. You can change shocks and exhaust up to the cat. Wheels must remain stock diameter and width. Any DOT-sanctioned tire is OK, in any width that you can get to fit on the wheel. A Star Spec would be legal, but it would not be competitive to someone who was on a full-blown racing tire -- an "R compound" of treadwear 20 or so -- from Hoosier or Kumho in a 225 width at least. Someone on "R" compound tires will be 1 to 2 seconds faster on a 60 second course than the same driver in the same car running "street" tires.
I think the 17" wheels aren't stock legal unless they show up on the original Monroney label. Tire. Not an official SCCA class, but most regions have one. Stock rules identical to those above except tires are limited to "street" tires with treadwear above 140. A Star Spec would be fine here. An "R" compound would not. Usually a lot of different stock classes are lumped together in Tire, then the results "indexed" so they can be compared and everyone will have more fun competing in a larger class. Street Touring: On "street" tires, but a wider array of handling and breathing mods are available. Wheel width and tire size are limited by class (ST, STS, STX, etc) rather than to stock sizes. Thanks dtoups for the clarification. I am thinking "tire" will be next, as there are currently no other cars in H Stock and competing in a bigger pool will be more fun. So if I get new wheels, they must be 16x6 to stay in H Stock or in "Tire"?

I just read over the stock class and that is how it is done. you can use any DOT approved tire (even r-compounds) but the rims must be the same size (16x6). Although can anyone confirm 100% that the 17" are dealer installed option and not a factory delivered option?
