Default Hoods

Do you have any good deals on carbon fiber hoods? Kinda leaning towards OEM style as i dont wanna risk water getting in on the hybrid cable plug on the engine. Also possibly looking for a rear defuser.

Thanks,
-R

It is my opinion that if you're going to pay for an carbon fiber hood (hundreds), go with something not quite plain.
That is what I concluded after brainstorming that eventually led to me buying my Seibon MG Style- Carbon Fiber Hood.

-Which is really fiber-reinforced plastic with a sheet of carbon fiber over that, and a coat of clear coat over that.
^No complaints, just giving you warning before you get something you were not expecting.
It still weighs a considerable amount less.

I got the Seibon MG Stlye Carbon Fiber Hood, which has vents in it that in my opinion complement the shape and styling of the body of the car. My father and I initially contemplated fabricating some metal plates to slide into the openings during rain or prolonged periods of parking.
We have not yet done this, as it has in no way been a problem.
You will find that a solenoid mount on the engine will begin to show signs of rust- but water will splash up and that will happen regardless and it shouldn't be a concern- given it is less than mild corrosion.

Long story short-
I have a hood with vents, I have personally not found it to cause any issues .

This is just my opinion- hope it helps.

Thanks for the info but I have pretty much decide it to go with no vents so I am looking to see what deals this vendor has. We have weird heavy rains here in the spring and winter and also its not uncommon to get a ton of splash back from other cars due to our states very slowly in progress and always under construction so usually flooding main roads and interstates. Again thanks for the info as its helpful but would rather stay away from vents.

Thanks,
-R

Glad it was helpful,
Just food for thought- but given I now see where you live and with your stated weather concern, I side with you

Gitano, I've had the hood almost as long as I've had the car. Got the car in Feb; got the hood in either March or beginning of April.

Yeah, when I hit that deer last February and needed a new hood, I thought about replacing it with a CF vented one. But, after reading about rust issues often encountered when using these hood on a daily driver, I decided to just go stock. That's why I asked how long you had the hood for, since you did mention some oxidation. If I lived in a climate friendlier to CF vented hoods, I would have installed one by now! I very much like the look, particularly on a black car.

Oxidation on carbon fiber hoods is easily prevented by occasionally waxing the hood.

Those yellow, dull hoods you see on the less desirable Hondas that race around are a result of the driver not keeping up on cleaning (and never detailing), or the previous owner of the car/hood.

And I live in Florida, where every 6 year old car needs a headlight restoration due to UV rays from the sun here.

As long as you wax it about once a month, you shouldn't have any problems.
