Default Warning Rust on Ksport coilover

Has anyone else had issues of rust on their aftermarket struts tower from their coilover kit. This water is coming in the water ducts from the windshield down in the engine bay. I contacted Ksport they said to remove the rust with a wire brush and place a cap over the thread. What do you guys think, and is this happening to anyone else? I'm worried the rust will cause leakage.

They come with a cap for a reason. You're not supposed to leave the tool in them.

The Installer left the Caps on them, I think because it is almosty impossible to put the key in....with the windsheild molding being completely in the way. Actually I cant them out. The OEM little cap won't cover that entire thread also. I'm guessing you dont have a coilover kit.

lol actually I do. Had my set since a week after I purchased the vehicle. I know that the cap doesn't cover all of the way down the sides of it. It will help with this though. I've had my caps on my coils since new and never had a rust issue.

wire brush them, put the cap on, and if your worried about rust coming back, give them a shot of wd40.

That's what I plan to do, and Ksport suggested that......but I'm trying to get feedback from others owners who have coilover kits.

UPDATE.

Ok after doing some research and trying to get Ksport to see if we can get my warranty to cover this (since the rust made it's way down inside the hole where the key goes), I talked to TEIN on the phone and they use zinc in the thread to keep this very thing from happening, because of where the strut tower is located where water will hit it they pre thought this problem, actually they do it to all their kits to keep rust away. Letting you guys know. TEIN is also concern that the seal will get damaged on the piston rod and cause leakage.

Here is Ksport response:

Ok we don't care about what other manufactures say about their products. They do not make our coilovers. What they make is always different. All our shocks are covered in anti rust paint and everything so it doesn't rust. Most the time people leave their adjustment knobs in the coilover at times.

Ah he was talking about the painted parts not rusting. Imo, id clean it up, get a vacuum cap that reaches the full amount of the threads. pop a hole in the top just enough to get the adjuster through it (but still have a seal) then reinstall. Problem is, if your having this issue at the top threads, imagine whats going to happen to the adjusting threads on the body itself.

Tein actually designed their coils to adjust dampening from the bottom (where they bolt to the spindle is underneath the body) to prevent this situation, and i just have the OEM caps over the threads. And they used a new coating on their threaded bodys that prevents rust and the dirt build up hasnt been too bad on it either.
