Default disabling airbag lights thread

Thought I'd start a thread for the proper resistor to disable airbag lights that come on when installing aftermarket seats. I just put in an order on an online electronics shop, will post my results once I get them and do some experimenting! That way, if I can rule them out, others can try other options to narrow down what is needed.

I've actually not had a chance to do this yet with our car, let us know how it works for you! what seats do you have in yours?

Would this allow the rest of the airbags to be active in an accident? I know it tricks it into thinking the modules for the seats are still there to eliminate the light.

i'm getting some sparco evo 2 seats (driver and passenger) in the mail shortly.

the purpose of these resistors is to trick the car computer into thinking the side airbags in the car seats still exist. it won't alter any of the other airbags in the car.

I found an article on another honda forum of what i'm essentially trying to do:

[DIY] How To Turn Off The Airbag Light For After Market Bucket Seats. - V6 Performance.net Forums

OK so with this mod it should let the remaining airbags be active in an accident then (hard to test I suppose lol) if so ill be picking up a set of blue dc5r recaros or some black with blue stictch srds in the very near future.

The resistors came in the mail....I tried them briefly by jamming them into the yellow plug coming out of the flooring, to no avail. I think it might need to cut off the yellow plug, strip the outer shielding on the brown and green wires to get a more solid connection. Should I disconnect the negative terminal on the car battery before I try each resistor, or should the car automatically pick it up if I just turn on/off the car?

update - did some more tinkering and found out the seats have slightly different sensors:

passenger seat: weight sensor, buckle, airbag
driver seat: sensor for proximity to steering wheel, buckle, airbag

passenger weight sensor seat looks like a real b****h to take out, so i'm hoping that if the buckle is clicked in, it would just turn on the airbag? i never have small children riding with me.

also, i read on another forum that leaving a 2.5ohm sensor in the airbag plug took 3-4 days before the airbag light would go away. I only purchased a 2ohm sensor, so I plugged it in last night, and maybe by monday/tuesday I'll have better results....

If the other forum said 2.5ohm you shouldn't even waste your time. Just go to radio shack and get a 2.5. I think an entire band of resistors is like 10 bucks.

i'm bringing in the car to a custom shop tomorrow to have them look at it. The passenger seat is going to need to be de-constructuted to get the passenger weight sensor out and it goes beyond my comfort zone.

the person at the shop warned me to be careful because I may set off airbags playing with the resistors (perhaps if the correct resistor loses connection accidentally while the car is on?). he said he would do some research on it.

i'm pretty sure based on other honda forums, the resistor is going to be somewhere in the 2-3ohm range.
