... but 21mm is awfully beefy unless the front's 17mm stock one is upgraded as well ...
What do you mean by 'low' spring rates, Tony? I'm assuming that you mean that even aftermarket springs -- whether on coilovers or separate (Swift, Eibach, Spoon) -- for the CR-Z are still relatively, well, springy? Why would aftermarket manufacturers do that on a car that already has a more "jiggly" back end than front end? Weight distribution, maybe (lighter rear end)? Torsion beam rear suspension design? (Not that there's anything wrong with a jiggly back end ... ahem.) |

Mike, If you check with almost any coilover manufacture they do not allow an upgraded rear spring with a higher rate on the CRZ. With most kits you have the option of a 5/6k spring rate with the option to use any 2.5" diameter spring up front and either a 3k rear (Buddy Club) 4k rear (Apexi, Megan, Cusco, Tein) Also in most autocross setups you would want a higher spring rate in the rear so that the car can turn in faster reducing understeer. With a larger rear sway bar you are bumping up the spring rates another 200-220lbs which is about a 2-3K increase in spring rate. Most race teams will use adjustable swaybars to compensate for springrate but in the case with the CRZ we do not have that option because of the rear torsion beam design.
Baby got back!
